What is this? A beautiful caterpillar. Yes, but I need to know more! This black swallowtail caterpillar can form a chrysalis and delay its development in order to overwinter when the nectar it feeds on is unavailable. Amazing, right?

Llama, llama and 2 black sheep. Today I learned how these llamas at a nearby arboretum would keep coyotes away from the sheep. No, not their size. Not their height. Not their ability to spit. Because coyotes and llamas did not co-evolve, coyotes don't know llamas and what they are capable of and so they are wary of them and thus stay away, in this case, from the llamas AND the sheep.
