After a dedicated 43-year career as a banker, I am now retired from the financial industry and currently work as a ski instructor.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is having the opportunity to interact with people every day, especially working with adaptive students who have special needs.

One of the major challenges in my career was being tasked with completing a loan computer conversion for over 40 banks. At first, the project seemed completely overwhelmingโ€”much like the prospect of eating an elephant. I was able to overcome this monumental task by breaking it down and taking it one step at a time, or one bite at a time.

If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, it would simply be to be more patient.

I originally joined Rotary because I wanted to be actively involved in local community projects, and someone took the initiative to invite me to join.

I am particularly proud of our Dictionary Project, which has successfully grown and evolved from serving zero to 5 schools.

Beyond my primary career, I spent 11 years officiating high school and college basketball, and I also served as an instructor at the Lubbock Fire School for 11 years. In my free time, I love both skydiving and scuba diving. During my naval career as an Intelligence Specialist, I had the privilege of working directly with SEAL Team 2. Additionally, as a ski instructor, I consistently log over 120 days on the slopes each year, and I remain an active board member for the Lamb Board at the Tri-State Fair, serving as an Assistant Superintendent

The Shamrock Rotary Club had the privilege of hearing from Berlin Saxon, Shamrock ISDโ€™s Ag teacher, during our recent meeting. She provided an overview of the upcoming programs, student projects, and key initiatives set for the agriculture department this school year. Her presentation highlighted the growth of local ag education and the valuable opportunities available to our students. We appreciate Berlin taking the time to update our club and for her continued hard work in our schools.

September 11, 2001, stands as a defining day of profound tragedy, resilience, and unity. The loss of innocent lives left an indelible mark on our history and our hearts. Yet, out of the darkness of that morning emerged extraordinary acts of courageโ€”from the first responders who rushed toward danger to everyday citizens who sacrificed everything for others. We continue to honor the memory of those we lost and the bravery of those who served, keeping their stories alive across generations. We will never forget their sacrifice, their strength, or the spirit of unity that brought us together in our darkest hour.

โ˜˜๏ธHonoring a Legacy of Service & Community Support ๐Ÿ€

โ€‹The Shamrock Rotary Club has been a longtime supporter of Shamrock Meals on Wheels. We deeply understand the vital importance of delivering nutritious meals to our elderly, disabled, and homebound neighbors who rely on this essential service every day.

โ€‹We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eva Joyce. Throughout her decades of leadership and dedication, Eva mirrored the true heart of Rotaryโ€™s mottoโ€”Service Above Self.

โ€‹To honor Evaโ€™s extraordinary memory and her legacy of selfless care for our community, the Shamrock Rotary Club has donated $500 to help support this amazing organization as it continues her life's work.

โ€‹๐Ÿ“ธ Pictured Below: Past President Kye Harper presenting the check to the new program administrator, Melanie Moya, as we work together to carry this vital program forward.
