Bravo Tutti to Shakopee Band Alum Perry Brennan for his featured solo performance on Sunday of the Vaughn Williams Tuba Concerto with the fantastic Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Perry also won the University of Minnesota Bands Concerto competition and will be performing the Gregson Tuba Concerto with the U of MN Wind Ensemble on April 1st (no joke) at Ted Mann concert hall. HUGE congratulations to Shakopee Alumni Perry Brennan on this incredible honor and achievement!

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 University Bands Concerto Competition, held on November 11 in Ultan Recital Hall and featuring soloists performing repertoire for wind ensemble and concert band.

Perry Brennan (MM, Tuba)
Student of Prof. Steve Campbell
Perry will perform Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto with the University Wind Ensemble on April 1, 2026.

Zhiwei Feng (DMA, Saxophone)
Student of Dr. Preston Duncan
Zhiwei will perform Henri Tomasi’s Ballade with the Symphonic Band in Fall 2026.

We extend our gratitude to pianists Casey Rafn and Michael Min for their excellent collaboration, as well as to our jury of UMN Bands faculty and Professor Emeritus Craig Kirchhoff for their thoughtful adjudication.

It was an awesome night in St. Paul! The UST Honor Band Concert was amazing! Emily, Nate, and Ashley represented Shakopee very well!
Plus, SHS alumni Jasmine and Brynn performed as members of the UST Symphonic Wind Ensemble!

Huge thank you to the Shakopee Band Boosters and the Activities Department! Thanks to them we have two new instruments that we have never owned before. These valve trombones will allow our euphonium players to have a more authentic experience in jazz band.

It is always awesome to see Shakopee Alumni performing. Tonight it was the University of Minnesota Jazz I with two former Shakopee jazzers, Devin and Logan, on stage.

Penultimate rehearsal for Concert Band before Wednesday’s concert. Started rehearsal with a run through of the whole concert. Now students are evaluating and coming up with the rehearsal plan for the rest of the block.
