Four years without my best friend. These past four years have been full of both deep sadness and love/growth. Recently, I turned 22 and graduated college with my bachelors, and Nathan has turned 17 and is going into his senior year of high school. Bitter sweet without her presence.

Don’t you just love when new books show up on your doorstep in that brown Amazon packaging? Two more books arrived today! Some of the books I ordered are a little delayed due to high demand (this is a great problem) but having a few arrive every week is actually quite nice! Thank you Amazon for spacing out my reading into manageable chunks! So far the YA selections are coming quickly but the adult anti-racism texts are taking a bit longer. I am happy to wait if that means that so many people are out there doing the work right now! What are you reading this summer? Any great recommendations?

Dual book study! My son and I (13) are reading Dear Martin together while my daughter (18) and I are reading Just Mercy! She is old enough for the original version (not the YA version,) but the teacher in me is also planning curriculum for next fall! Teachers love to multi-task- am I right? Education starts at home and I will make sure that my own children are anti-racist while creating new curriculum for my students! What texts are you planning on including next year?

New blog post! This post is about using social media to get your secondary students responding to any text! I love to think of creative ways to get my students responding to and reflecting upon literature. I want them practicing those literary analysis skills all year, but I want them engaged in that learning as well! Read more by clicking on the link in my profile! .
