🦉 What a GREAT day at SMS!

We wrapped up the last day of the first nine weeks with a visit from the SHS Band and some sweet treats from Kona Ice during lunch!

We hope everyone enjoys a wonderful, relaxing fall break! Take time to recharge, have some fun, and enjoy the week off. We can’t wait to see our Owls back on Monday, October 19! 💜🤍

🟣 PURPLE FRIDAY — FALL SPORTS WRAP-UP 🟣

Our fall sports season has officially come to an end, and we couldn’t be more proud of all of our SMS student-athletes! From great performances and memorable moments to the commitment shown throughout the season, our students represented Seymour Middle School, SMS Athletics, and our community extremely well.

Today, we want to recognize every student who participated in a fall sport and thank them for being part of something bigger than themselves at SMS.

We hope to see many of these same Owls continue their participation in SMS Athletics during the winter and spring seasons. Keep competing, keep representing, and keep being All In, All Together!

TOGETHER WE SOAR!💜🦉✨☺️
October is Bullying Prevention Month, and our Seymour Middle School students are taking on a special Together We Soar Challenge—one that starts with something we ALL have the power to change: the way we think. 💭

We’re challenging our students to look for small ways to make SMS a better place for EVERYONE. Because sometimes, the smallest actions can make the biggest difference. “One small thing I can do to make Seymour Middle School a better place is…”

✨ Say hi to someone who is sitting alone.
✨ Include someone who may feel left out.
✨ Think before you speak or post.
✨ Choose kindness—even when no one is watching.
✨ Stand up for someone who needs a friend.
✨ Give someone a compliment.
✨ Look for the good in others.
✨ Be the person who makes someone’s day a little better.

This month, we’re reminding our Owls that we don’t have to do something BIG to make a BIG difference.

When we change the way we think…
➡️ we change the way we treat others.
➡️ we change the culture of our school.
➡️ we help everyone feel like they belong.

🦉💜 TUESDAY TAKEOVER: MRS. LISA CONNER! 💜🦉

This Tuesday, we’re celebrating someone who has been a very special part of the SMS family for 25 years—our amazing librarian, Mrs. Lisa Conner! 📚❤️

Lisa’s favorite part of SMS is seeing students come into the library excited about reading and asking about books. But if you’ve spent any time around SMS, you know that “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” could practically be Mrs. Conner’s theme song! 🎶💜 There is truly no mountain high enough, no task too big, and no request too small when it comes to helping our students and staff. Whether she’s searching for just the right book for a student, helping create beautiful bulletin boards and displays around the school, or making her famous Peanut Butter Buckeye treats for the staff, Lisa is always willing to jump in and help!

After 25 years at SMS, Lisa has certainly become part of the fabric of our school. Outside of school, Lisa has been married to her husband for 39 years and is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren! ❤️

Lisa, there really isn’t anything you wouldn’t do for our students and staff, and SMS is a better place because of you. From books to bulletin boards to Buckeyes, you are always there to make someone’s day a little better. We appreciate you more than you know! 🦉💜📚

Learning is even more powerful when students are engaged, challenged, and having fun! Our math students put their skills to the test by using card games to practice comparing and adding/subtracting integers. Students had to think strategically, apply their understanding, and make quick decisions-all while competing against their classmates!

Our Owls are thinking, challenging themselves, and SOARING in math! 💜
