Kim just posted that Gary is being moved to a private room. No longer an ICU patient!

10/06/2023

Additional information from Gary's wife Kim today:
Earlier today - Gary is still making steady improvement. He still has a tube in his nose, but they are removing it to do a swallow test to see if he can eat regular food. Also going to be weaned off BP meds that are keeping his BP up. He can’t leave icu until he’s off of that. Fingers crossed!

Just received within the hour, he's eating chicken pot pie and his blood pressure is holding steady without meds!

10/05/2023

Gary Hays' wife Kim reported within the past hour:
Wonderful news! Gary Hays got the vent tube out!! He’s just using the cpap machine to help him breathe!/

Peace and Best Regards,

Steve

I haven't been on Facebook since early Tuesday, and just found out from Gary's wife Kim he's back in the hospital. Here are the update notes as of 1 hour ago. Please continue to keep Gary and Kim in your thoughts and prayers.

10/4

Gary Hays is on his way back to the ER. Shortness of breath, and sweating profusely. I’ll give updates as I can.

Gary is being sedated tonight and put on a vent and taken to ICU. I’ll know more in the morning.

Gary Hays is now on a vent in icu. They’re doing tests. I’ll update as I get news.

Gary Hays is resting comfortably. They tried to do a cpap trial today but his BP went too low. They will try again tomorrow. That’s about all for now. I’ll update if anything changes.

Talked to the night nurse. Gary is doing great! Took him off of BP meds and his BP is doing great! They’re going to try to take him off the vent tomorrow and see if he can breathe on his own. What a fighter!

10/5/2023

Gary is writing notes to the nurse. They tried the cpap again this morning and he failed. He did great while awake, but didn’t initiate a breath when he fell asleep. Doing more tests. He wants the vent out. I’m going up in a little while and will report later.

Peace and Best Regards,

Steve

Update on Gary Hays from last night from his wife Kim: Gary is worn out and just wants to rest after this long, horrible day. They did a head and spine CT which was negative. More testing ongoing. He didn’t want to get cleaned up because he’s exhausted. They’ll do it in the morning and let him sleep tonight.
6 hours ago - Talked to Garys nurse. No complaints or complications through the night. He was still asleep. She was getting ready to wake him up to eat breakfast. All tests so far were negative. I just talked to him. He sounds good.

09/28/2023

I just learned from Gary Hays' wife Kim that he had a seizure earlier this morning and fell out of bed, and landed on his face. He has been admitted to CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV. Please keep Gary and Kim in your thoughts and prayers, and send our dear friend and classmate positive healing vibes!

As some of you may have seen in his Facebook post, Gary Hays sister is on life support and in a comatose state. Gary wrote "When my sister was taken off of life support she was expected to only last an hour. It’s now been 38 hours and she’s still alive and breathing on her own. Even so, she’s not going to survive, and her brain, due to the burst blood clot, is non-functional so she’s 100% comatose. All we can do at this point is wait on the inevitable."

Please keep Gary and his family in your thoughts and prayers and that his dear sister passes peacefully into the next life.

If I learn of any additional developments, I will let you all know.

My wife Phyllis after seeing the Neuro Ophthalmologist on Monday has put her on medication that she hopes will help in her healing process. Unfortunately not for the left eye. We both want to thank all of my friends and classmates for their continued support and mostly their prayers! God Bless you all.
