A minute to learn, years to master!
Ura & Omote teach us to read intention, adjust our angle, and stay present under pressure.
When awareness and clarity work together, everything changes.

Last night’s First Monday classes went deep into one of the most important skills in our art:
- Controlling the Flow: The ability to drive your opponent’s responses through your actions.
This is the moment when technique becomes strategy. When movement becomes intention. When the exchange stops being a reaction drill and starts becoming a chess match you’re winning.
We worked on:
- Driving the initiative: Acting with purpose so your partner is always responding to you.
- Shaping reactions: Using angles, pressure, and timing to dictate the next beat.
- Owning the moment: Staying composed while creating the path you want.
Everyone showed up ready to work, ready to think, and ready to elevate.
This is what separates students from practitioners, the ability to impose your game, not survive theirs.
I am proud of everyone who attended!
Next month, we build again.

Had a great time this morning talking with the Senior Class at Seymour High School about Awareness and Protection. As they prepare to launch themselves out into the bigger world it is important that we arm them with the tools to stay safe and enjoy the experiences!

On Memorial Day, we pause with the same discipline we train with, steady, respectful, and fully present.
Today we honor the warriors who never came home, and the families who carry the weight of their sacrifice.
Their courage is the standard every martial artist should strive to live up to: service before self, strength with humility, and a life guided by purpose.
As we bow our heads, we remember:
The freedoms we enjoy were earned by those who stood the line and did not step back.
May our actions on the mat and in our communities reflect a gratitude worthy of their legacy.
Remember & Honor.
Reminder!
Bushi Ban Seymour & Southbury will be closed Monday 5/25. In observance of Memorial Day.
