Seymour alum Clay Merritt joined us today to share a powerful message about the lasting impact educators can have on their students.

Clay delivered an outstanding message, and we are incredibly thankful he took the time to come back and speak with our staff. It was a great reminder that the work we do as educators can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

Thank you, Clay, for sharing your story and inspiring us today! Go Warriors!

New Staff Spotlight: Meet Mrs. Shayla Swarts!

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Shayla Swarts to Seymour Community School District as our new Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor!

Mrs. Swarts has always had a passion for helping young people discover their potential and become the best versions of themselves. Growing up with both parents working in education, she saw firsthand how educators can make a lasting impact—not just by teaching a subject, but by building relationships, encouraging growth, and inspiring students to believe in themselves.

With her background in agriculture and passion for youth and leadership development, Mrs. Swarts is excited to bring those experiences into the classroom and FFA program. She believes agricultural education is about much more than agriculture—it provides opportunities for students to develop responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking, confidence, and leadership skills.

The small-community atmosphere was one of the things that immediately attracted Mrs. Swarts to Seymour. Having grown up in the small community of Moulton and attended Moulton-Udell, she understands the special relationships and support that come from being part of a close-knit rural community. She is looking forward to getting to know our students, families, and community and becoming an active part of Seymour.

A few fun facts about Mrs. Swarts:
-She grew up on her family’s farm in Moulton, where they operated a cow-calf operation and successful show cattle business, Martsching Show Cattle.
-She earned her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University, with a minor in Event Management.
-She is married to her husband, Tanner, and they have two daughters, Ada and Indie.
-For the past five and a half years, she has served as the Appanoose County Youth Coordinator.
-Through her work, she has spent years working with 4-H and FFA families, volunteers, and communities, creating educational opportunities and positive experiences for youth.

This year, Mrs. Swarts is especially excited to grow the agricultural education program, build meaningful relationships with students, and create opportunities for FFA members to learn, lead, and succeed. We have a feeling there will be plenty of agricultural adventures ahead!

Mrs. Swarts shared that she is incredibly grateful for the warm welcome she has received from the Seymour School District and community and is excited about everything we can accomplish together.

Please help us give Mrs. Shayla Swarts and her family a big Seymour welcome!
