Thursday Artist Spotlight: Camden Yandel

We’re excited to introduce Camden Yandel, a designer, illustrator, and educator based in Pittsburgh, PA. Camden is the artist behind this year’s Mavuno Festival poster!

Camden’s artwork will help set the tone for Mavuno’s 30th anniversary celebration, centered around this year’s theme: Grit, Grace & Gratitude.

For three decades, Mavuno has celebrated Black arts, culture, creativity, and community. This year, we’re reflecting on the grit that has carried this festival forward, the grace found in community, and the gratitude we feel for the artists, supporters, and audiences who have made Mavuno what it is today.

We’re grateful to Camden for helping us bring this year’s celebration to life through his art. We can’t wait to share his poster with you and welcome you to Mavuno!

Thursday Artist Spotlight: Lyla Nelson

Lyla’s love for art began with a box of crayons and has continued to grow through an ongoing exploration of materials, nature, and the world around her.

During childhood summers in Puerto Rico, Lyla learned to paint from a neighbor, sparking a creative journey that would take her from painting and fibers to ceramics and eventually glass. After earning her BFA in Glass from the Appalachian Center for Craft, she relocated to Pittsburgh, where she continues to pursue her work as an artist and is part of the Pittsburgh Glass Center community.

Inspired by her interests in science and nature, glass gives Lyla a medium that challenges her while satisfying her natural instinct to create. Her work reflects a lifelong curiosity and a love of discovering what is possible through making.

We’re excited to welcome Lyla to Sweetwater Blooms this Saturday, August 15. Stop by, meet Lyla, and discover her work alongside 25 local makers.
