AVTEC Maritime Graduate: Maggie L.

Maggie attended Able Seaman (AB) classes through the Alaska Maritime Training Center at AVTEC in 2018, left to work a fishing job, and returned in 2019 to finish the required courses.
After completing the courses and receiving an AB credential, Maggie went on to work with Samson Tug and Barge, sailing down the Aleutian chain and throughout Southeast Alaska.

Maggie’s career has broadened to include shore-side work as well, including compliance and operations roles. Maggie has found the ability to transition to a logistics position beneficial for a balance of working within the maritime industry and raising her son.

Maggie’s thoughts on working in the maritime industry: “I couldn't imagine not being a part of this world.”
