Ensemble directors! As you consider repertoire for this year, consider this piece by composer Keith Andrews. It was commissioned and premiered by the Wind Symphony last year! This piece utilizes the hymn tune SEWARD by long time Concordia music professor, Ted Beck!

Shining Like the Sun is based on two hymn tunes, SEWARD and LYRA DAVIDICA. The words of both hymns deal with important events in the story of Jesus, SEWARD ("Jesus on the Mountain Peak") with Jesus' transformation, and LYRA DAVIDICA ("Jesus Christ is Risen Today") with Jesus' resurrection. Music education student Emily Castens came to Concordia University, Nebraska following in the footsteps of several family members who called Concordia home. Beyond those family connections, she was drawn to Concordia’s faith life opportunities, including chapel, church services and devotion time, as well as the support and involvement of the music department.

If you are a student who is attending or considering attending Lutheran High, Parker, CO (lutheranhighschool) you MUST consider playing an instrument in Mr. Kretzer’s (williamkretzer) ensembles! What a wonderful man with a GREAT vision for the program! So excited to watch this program grow and flourish!

My name is Samuel Dunbar. I am from Utica, Nebraska: a tiny town of about 800 people just west of Lincoln. I'm the oldest of three boys whose father serves as an LCMS Pastor and whose mother tours as a recording musical artist. I recently finished a degree in Music Education from Concordia University - Nebraska where I sang in the choir, played trumpet, composed, directed and much, much more. When I am not making music, I love to read, cook, learn about history, and explore the outdoors. I am very excited to be here in Sheboygan and serve the SALSA Schools in the role God has called me to. I look forward to meeting you and becoming a part of this community of faith!
