May Peace Prevail on Earth!
What a special morning at Sewanee Elementary! Today, October 2, our school community gathered for our annual Peace Pole Assembly, focusing on Cherokee language, history, and art.
Our 4th-grade students led the assembly, sharing what they learned about Cherokee culture and teaching the entire school how to say "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the Cherokee language.
Cherokee-inspired artwork created by students in every grade level was proudly displayed, and our 5th graders did a fantastic job presenting each piece and sharing its significance with the school!
We extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Doris Trevino for sharing her family's rich Cherokee history, demonstrating her artistry, and helping our 4th graders learn the proper Cherokee pronunciation for this ceremony.
Thank you to all of the families who joined us this morning to celebrate our students and this wonderful tradition!
