The Life Paths Research Center was founded by Dr. Sherry Hamby. Life Paths is committed to studying and developing strengths-based approaches to coping with adversity. We particularly focus on self-regulation, interpersonal skills, and meaning making as the keys to achieving well-being, even after significant adversity. Life Paths is home to ResilienceCon and other events that promote reducing the burden of trauma.

Our Story

Life Paths, a center for resilience and social justice research based in rural Appalachia, was founded by Dr. Sherry Hamby. Life Paths is committed to studying and developing strengths-based approaches to coping with victimization and other adversities. Dr. Hamby has multi-generational roots in Appalachia and the work of Life Paths is particularly dedicated to helping rural, under-served and marginalized communities. We focus on self-regulation, interpersonal skills, and meaning making as the keys to achieving well-being, even after significant adversity.
