This is really cool. There's only a passing mention of lidar applications for mapping landscape, but here's a great video by Mark Rober using lidar to (1) map Space Mountain, (2) the Haunted Mansion), and (3) use in self-driving cars (the majority of the video).
All of it is super cool, but the Space Mountain mapping at the start was pretty amazing.
But, the real moral of the video is, if you have a car with self-driving features, make sure it uses lidar (like most self-driving cars), and NOT video cameras (like a Tesla).
