As summer comes a close, Sewanee business students reflect on their recent internships as sources of professional development and personal transformation.

Grace Whitley Olson, C’27, recently completed an Operations & Sustainability Internship at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Grace contributed to marketing, branding, and content creation projects that support the organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, she supported the Sustainability Director with presentations to board members.

Grace shares that, “it was inspiring to see such an important community staple leading sustainability efforts in my hometown… I am walking away from this experience feeling incredibly grateful and inspired, not only about what comes next in my own sustainability journey, but also about the future of a more sustainable Nashville. I am excited to carry the lessons, experiences, and connections from this summer with me into the future.”

Sewanee students spent the summer preparing to make an impact in the world of business. Maria Kennedy, C’27, recently completed an Associate Sales Representative Internship at Kestra Medical Technologies.

In this position, Maria gained experience supporting both patient and provider facing operations for a wearable defibrillator that protects patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. After attending the National Sales Meeting in Chicago, Maria worked directly with patients and providers, learning that empathy and communication play a critical role in delivering quality care. As Maria notes, “meeting with patients was the most meaningful part of the experience because I saw firsthand how our wearable defibrillator provides lifesaving protection and peace of mind during a vulnerable time in their lives.”

Maria’s internship concluded with a presentation to Kestra’s executive leadership team in Seattle that challenged her to refine her public speaking skills. She notes that this internship strengthened her professional confidence and reinforced her passion for building a career where she can combine business with helping those in critical need.
