Homeschool has been so unbelievably full of love, learning, joy and gratitude this season. Our students have mapped out their favorite places, given things to those in need (with the help of ) and developed social and emotional skills that will last a lifetime.

Fall is almost here! Have you made plans for your fall breaks yet? Look no further! CFS Fall Break Camp at Lake Cheston will be the perfect fit for any curious, adventurous child, aged 6-11, who wishes to spend their time off from the school grind, outside, in the sunshine, enjoying crisp fall weather with friends old and new! Camp begins Monday, Oct.6 and lasts through Wednesday, Oct. 8th from 9-3pm. We will hike, build a campfire, enjoy games, crafts and more! Register now on our website.

Get to know Leah Conner, one of the amazing university students that helps our After School program to run so smoothly!

“I am Leah. I am a senior studying Psychology and Business at Sewanee: The University of the South. In my free time I love to be outdoors (especially with animals) and participate in outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, climbing, and more! This is my second year working as a mentor for the CFS afterschool program. I am so excited to work with the kids again and share my love for the outdoors!”

Have you met Briana Pond, a fellow University Mentor for our After School Program? We are so grateful for her involvement this year :)

“Hi, I’m Briana Pond, a senior majoring in Environment and Sustainability from Nashville, Tennessee. I’ve been passionate about outdoor education since I was 15, starting with science camps during the summer, where I led educational activities for children. I’ve also had the privilege of interning with the Cahaba River Society, where I taught outdoor education to elementary students along the river. At Sewanee, I love exploring the outdoors—whether hiking to hidden swimming holes like Theolog’s Pool or catching the breathtaking sunsets at Piney Point.”

⭐️🍄 University Mentor Highlight 🍄⭐️

Our After School Program is lucky to have the aid of Sewanee university mentors such as Hannah Barrow, who help to foster a love of outdoor learning and play in our young students! Learn more about Hannah below :)

“I am Hannah. I am a senior studying Ecology in Sewanee and I plan on pursuing Marine Biology. This summer, I had the privilege of working for a non-profit in British Columbia working on whale research. In the spring, I got to come and do a lesson with the CFS students on behalf of the Sewanee Ocean Lab and I enjoyed it so much that I applied to be an After School Mentor! In Sewanee, I spend most of my time with the Sewanee Outing Program, the Greenhouse, and exploring beautiful places on the domain. I love getting outside and I am so excited to get out with such a curious group of kids. I think we have a lot to learn from each other. “
