Ladies! I woul like to announce that Deborah Cheney has been chosen to be a LOTH AmbassaDiva for her area, North Carolina. More territories for our ladies are added as needed.

Deborah has been so enthusiastic regarding Ladies of the Hat and she and I have had several communications and conversations. I know she is ready to represent! Please extend a LOTH welcome to Deborah!

The First Call for Magic

This beautiful stained-glass piece came from the E. W. Edwards Store in upstate New York, a store that was in business for nearly a century, from 1889 to 1974. The original price tag is still on the back, bearing the Edwards Store name and dating the piece to the late 1960s.

It has hung in my office for decades.

In the mid-1960s, I traveled to New York for just two days—and somehow, this piece called my name. I brought it home, never imagining just how much it would come to represent.

Over the years, it became one of the many little thoughts, inspirations, and ideas that eventually led me to create a special society of ladies—women who would be kind, caring, fun-loving, and charitable, while always enjoying the fun of dressing “to the nines.” And black would no longer mean "mourning" or any other negative, sad, or evil thoughts.

That dream officially became Ladies of the Hat in 2005.

And today? This stained-glass lady is still hanging in my office, and she still has her original price tag. I suspect she may even be one of a kind.

Perhaps, all those years ago, she really was the first call for a little Magic.

I hope you enjoyed this small slice of history of Ladies of the Hat.
