Last week I soaked up the last little bit of summer before school and hockey season start back up. ☀️🌊

And yes... I still worked a little while I was away.

The irony isn’t lost on me. 😉

I spend a lot of time talking to business owners about building teams and systems that allow the business to operate without everything depending on them.

And I’m still working on it, too.

Because there’s a big difference between KNOWING you should delegate and actually letting go.

Between having a team and trusting them to make decisions without you.

Between taking a vacation and actually being ON vacation.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about this work. Leadership isn’t something you master and check off the list.

We’re all continually learning how to lead better.

And inside the People Power Masterclass, that’s exactly what we do. We work on the practical skills and systems that help us build stronger teams and businesses that rely a little less on us being involved in everything.

“Are you a team player?”

“Do you work well under pressure?”

“Are you a good communicator?”

There’s one problem with questions like these:

The candidate knows exactly how you want them to answer.😉

If you want to make better hiring decisions, stop asking candidates to tell you who they think they are.

Ask them to show you who they’ve actually been.

Behavior-based questions get candidates talking about real situations, real decisions, and real outcomes…and those answers can tell you a lot more about the person sitting across from you.

Hiring is one of the practical systems we work on inside the People Power Masterclass, because building a strong team starts with getting the right people in the right seats.

Today I’m celebrating another trip around the sun. 🎉

Birthdays always make me reflect on where I’ve been, and where I’m headed.

This year, I’m especially grateful to celebrate with family. My nephew and I have birthdays just a few weeks apart, so we’ve made it a tradition to celebrate together. Those moments are a great reminder that while work is important, the people we share life with matter most.

Over the years, one thing has become crystal clear:
I don’t just love HR.

I love helping business owners stop carrying the weight of every people problem on their own.

Watching leaders go from second-guessing every decision to confidently leading their teams is one of the greatest privileges of my work.

To every client, podcast listener, book reader, mastermind member, and business owner who’s trusted me to be part of your journey, thank you! I truly couldn’t do what I love without you.
