🎓 ACCOUNTABILITY SERIES: POST 2

MORE THAN A DIPLOMA

Indiana’s new accountability model asks schools to do more than help students earn a diploma. It also examines whether students are on track to graduate and prepared for what comes next.

At Wapahani High School, students have access to programming that supports multiple paths after graduation, including:

✅ Dual credit and college coursework
✅ Career and technical education courses
✅ Work based learning experiences
✅ Industry recognized credentials
✅ Career exploration and planning
✅ Opportunities to develop employability skills
✅ Academic support to remain on track for graduation

The state will also consider credits earned during ninth and tenth grade, college readiness benchmarks, attendance, graduation rate, diploma type, and state assessment performance.

Our goal is for every Wapahani graduate to leave prepared for enrollment, employment, or enlistment.

A diploma remains important, but we must also ask: What valuable skills, experiences, college credits, and credentials did each student earn along the way?

At Wapahani, success is about more than graduating. It is about making sure every student has a meaningful plan and is ready to take the next step.

Why Attendance Matters - Showing up matters more than ever.

Under Indiana’s new accountability model, regular attendance is a Student Success Indicator at every assessed grade level.

To earn credit, a student must be present for at least 94% of enrolled instructional days. In a traditional 180 day school year, missing more than approximately 10 days could prevent a student from meeting the attendance target.

Every absence represents missed instruction, missed relationships, and missed opportunities. We understand that illness and emergencies happen, but consistent attendance remains one of the strongest ways families can support student success.

📚 The results are in, and our Braves have something BIG to celebrate!

An outstanding 95.3% of Selma Elementary’s third-grade students demonstrated reading proficiency on the 2026 IREAD assessment, officially surpassing Indiana’s 95% reading goal!

We are incredibly proud of our successful readers and grateful for the teachers, staff, families, and community members who supported them along the way. This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and teamwork happening every day at Selma Elementary.

We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated food, water, cleaning supplies, gift cards, clothing and more for the Liberty-Perry Schools flood relief efforts. You helped provide critical items to so many in need during this devastating situation. The compassion and care shown by the community has been amazing and reminds us once again why Selma is such a special place.

We also want to thank the student volunteers and leaders from WHS Student Council, FCA, Riley Club, and Selma Elementary PTO.

Appreciation also goes to Salsa's and Taco Bell for supplying food for volunteers.

Ready to Restart: School Resumes Monday

Liberty-Perry Families,

After an incredibly difficult and disruptive week for our communities, we are looking forward to restarting our school year tomorrow, Monday, August 17.

We know that for many of our families, life has not simply returned to normal. The flooding and tragic events of last week have left a lasting impact on our neighbors, families, and communities. We continue to keep everyone affected in our thoughts and prayers as the recovery process continues.

Tomorrow, we are excited to welcome our students back into our buildings. Our staff is ready to greet them, support them, and provide the sense of routine, care, and connection that our schools can offer during challenging times. We look forward to getting back to what we do best: loving, supporting, and educating the students of Liberty-Perry.

Flood Recovery Resources

Delaware County has updated its website with resources and information for families impacted by the flooding. We encourage anyone affected to use the Delaware County website as a primary source for information and available assistance:

County officials are also emphasizing the importance of reporting any property damage through the website as soon as possible. These reports provide a collective picture of the damage throughout our county and will help determine what assistance may be available from various agencies based on the magnitude of the damage.

If your home or property was impacted, please complete this process sooner rather than later.

Thank you for the incredible way our Liberty-Perry family has supported one another over the past several days. We have witnessed neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers stepping up, and our community coming together when people needed it most.

We cannot wait to see our students tomorrow and begin moving forward together.

We are here at Selma Elementary until 3:00 for families in need. We have clothes, cleaning supplies, personal care items, food, etc. Everything is available for those in need. Please do not hesitate if anything would be helpful to you, or a family you know, in need.

**SUBMIT & VIEW FLOOD RECOVERY RESOURCES**

As Delaware County continues to recover from the recent flooding, we are working to maintain a centralized list of resources, services, and organizations available to assist individuals, families, and communities impacted by the disaster.

You can **view available flood recovery resources** or **submit a resource that is not currently listed** by visiting:

If you know of an organization, service, program, or other resource that may help those affected by the flooding, please share it with us. Submitted resources will be reviewed and added as appropriate.

Heart of Indiana United Way has launched a Long-Term Flood Recovery Fund to help individuals and families across Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Madison and Randolph counties recover and rebuild.

100% of every gift will go directly to long-term flood recovery. Donors can choose to support a specific county or give where the need is greatest.

LPS families and anyone in the Selma Community or anyone you know who has been affected by the floods - please come and get what you need today and tomorrow at Selma Elementary from 12 - 3 p.m.

You can still drop off donations during this time as well. We do not need anymore clothing but are accepting all other items. Highest demand is clean up supplies for debris (such as gloves, trash bags, buckets, etc).

Our amazing Liberty Perry staffulty and students are at it again, blessing our community. At Selma Elementary, donations are being collected and distributed to families in need. Thanks to your generosity, we are no longer accepting clothing. The greatest needs right now are gas and restaurant gift cards.

Liberty - Perry Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, August 14, due to the continued impact of the catastrophic rainfall and flooding experienced throughout our communities.

There will be no e-learning tomorrow. We want to give our families and staff the time they need to take care of themselves, their homes, and one another.

This has certainly been an incredibly strange and challenging start to the 2026–2027 school year. While this is not how any of us envisioned beginning the year, we are looking forward to turning the page and starting on a new foot Monday morning. We cannot wait to get our students back in our buildings and get this school year truly underway!

Until then, please continue to keep our neighbors and all those impacted by the flooding in your thoughts and prayers.
