🎓 Graduate Spotlight: Jamie Bergren - Rockabye Rockies Pediatric Sleep Consulting 🎓

Jamie's path to becoming a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant started long before she enrolled — it started in the homes of the families she served as a postpartum doula. There, she witnessed it all: the joy, the exhaustion, the "am I doing this right?" moments that come with new parenthood. Time and again, she saw how much sleep (or the lack of it) shaped a family's ability to thrive.

That insight led her to FSI in 2020, and today Jamie combines her postpartum doula expertise with specialized sleep consulting to support families through some of the most challenging — and precious — years of caregiving.

Congratulations, Jamie! Families are lucky to have you in their corner. đź’›

For over 2,000 years, parents have been told their baby's night wakings are caused by something painful — teething, illness, growing pains.

explains why so many of these long-standing explanations — teething, spicy or gassy foods, growth spurts, developmental milestones, "sleep regressions" — are myths without real scientific support.

So what's actually behind frequent night wakings? Often, it comes down to two things parents can control: naps, bedtime, and self-soothing.

Live Course for Occupational Therapists: Pediatric Sleep

If you work with kids, you've seen how often sleep struggles show up alongside sensory processing challenges and developmental delays — but most OT training never covers sleep in depth.

Empowering OTs to Champion Child Sleep was built to close that gap. Over four live Zoom sessions (Oct 20, Oct 27, Nov 3, & Nov 10, 2026, 1PM ET), you'll get:

🔹 The foundations of pediatric sleep science
🔹 Practical OT intervention strategies
🔹 Case studies + collaborative problem-solving
🔹 Direct feedback from Dr. Ellen Pope
🔹 6 contact hours and an official Certificate of Completion

Taught by Dr. Ellen Pope, OTD/OTR and Dr. Brittany Huntington, OTD/OTR, RN — both Family Sleep Institute Certified Sleep Coaches.

We love celebrating the difference our FSI graduates make in the lives of families!

One parent recently shared this heartfelt testimonial about Kim Davis of Babes & Beyond: Pediatric Sleep Consulting. A full year after beginning their sleep journey together, the family continues to experience the benefits of Kim’s guidance—including peace of mind, greater patience, more enjoyable time together, and a healthy, growing little boy.

The parent described Kim’s support as professional, deeply appreciated, and deserving of “all the love letters in the world.”

Kim, your knowledge, compassion, and commitment beautifully reflect the work of an FSI graduate. We’re so proud to see you helping families create healthy, lasting change through better sleep. 💙🌙

Not every educational program should be for everyone.

And that's okay.

At the Family Sleep Institute, we believe that becoming an exceptional pediatric sleep consultant requires more than completing coursework. It takes commitment, curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to grow through thoughtful feedback.

Our students don't just earn a certification—they earn the confidence and expertise to support families with excellence. That means showing up consistently, embracing challenges, and continuing to learn long after graduation.

If you're looking for a program that will challenge you, support you, and help you become the kind of professional families can trust, we'd love to meet you.

✨ Applications for our Fall 2026 cohort are now open. If you see yourself in these traits, we encourage you to apply.

We love celebrating our Family Sleep Institute graduates, and today we’re spotlighting Hayley — known online as Hayley the Parent Coach! 🎓

Hayley holds a Master of Science in Child Development, is a Certified Child Behaviour Specialist, and completed her Certified Child Sleep Consultant training through FSI. She works with families on sleep, behaviour, and development, helping parents move from feeling stuck and overwhelmed to seeing real, positive change in their child — and in themselves.

What sets Hayley apart is her judgment-free, compassionate approach. She believes families don’t need to be in “crisis” to ask for help — sometimes all it takes is a few of the right tools and a customized plan to get back on track.

Congratulations, Hayley, and thank you for the incredible work you do for families! 👏

Why does an overtired baby often seem more wound up instead of sleepy? Dr. Marc Weissbluth shares that when bedtime gets pushed too late, the brain releases stimulating chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol to keep your baby awake and alert. The result: fussiness, the “witching hour,” and that frustrating burst of energy (a “second wind”) right when you’re hoping for sleep.

In his latest blog post, Dr. Weissbluth traces this idea back through decades of his research — and even a 1922 observation from a British pediatrician — showing that the science keeps confirming what careful clinicians have long noticed: an overtired child fights sleep, and that fight only makes bedtime harder.

🌟 Client Testimonial 🌟

Congratulations to Kerry, founder of and graduate of the Family Sleep Institute, for turning a stressful bedtime into a peaceful, predictable routine this family now looks forward to.

"We are incredibly grateful for our experience with Kerry! From the beginning, she was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely supportive and responsive to our family’s needs. If something in the plan wasn’t working, she took the time to listen and guide us through thoughtful adjustments. What was once a dreaded part of our day- bedtime- has become something we now look forward to with our son. He embraces the routine, sleeps soundly through the night, and stays in bed until his light turns green. We’re so thankful to have been part of this program, and we have no doubt that Kerry will continue to make a meaningful difference for many other families!"

This is exactly why we do what we do. đź’›

If your household is struggling with bedtime battles, Kerry can help you get there too. Send her a message to learn more about her sleep consulting services!

Does your baby fight sleep even when they're clearly exhausted? There's actually a science behind it. explains the concept of "pre-sleep arousal" — what happens in your baby's brain when bedtime comes too late. When overtired, the brain releases stimulating chemicals to stay awake, making it even harder for your little one to settle down. The result? The witching hour, the "second wind," and a baby who fights sleep during the very routine meant to calm them. Understanding this cycle is the first step to breaking it.
