IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Delaware School Safety Center at DEMA has alerted schools to a concerning social media trend involving “Cat in the Hat” content on Snapchat. What began as a dark-humor trend has expanded to include AI-generated images and posts containing threatening and targeting language.
We are sharing this information to keep our families informed. We encourage parents and guardians to talk with their children and monitor their social media activity. Students should understand that creating, posting, or sharing threatening content—even if intended as a joke—can cause fear, disrupt school operations, and consume significant school and public-safety resources.
Our district takes every threat seriously. Any threatening post or message will be investigated and may result in disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct and involvement from law enforcement.
Please remind your child:
• Do not create, repost, or share threatening content.
• Report concerning content to a trusted adult or school administrator.
• Do not assume that a post is harmless because it appears to be a joke or part of an online trend.
We appreciate your partnership in helping students make responsible choices online and keeping our schools safe.
