"In just a few short days we will be returning to our regular school schedule on August 31st, 2026. Please remember that the track and playground are closed to the public at 7:05 am on school days and become available again at 2:35pm. This includes dog walking. We remind all visitors to campus they need to check in at the office when visiting during school hours.

Certain facilities like the track and field areas are able to be reserved for public use, however many of the facilities are reserved for the exclusive use of our athletics department for after school sports. We are looking forward to seeing our students next Monday!"

Selah Middle School Families,

We are excited to welcome students back for the first day of school on Monday, August 31. This year, we are introducing a staggered start designed to give our incoming sixth graders a successful transition to middle school.

Sixth Grade – 7:35 a.m.
Sixth-grade students will begin at the regular school start time of 7:35 a.m. Regular morning bus routes will operate for sixth-grade students.

For the first three hours of the day, sixth graders will have the building to themselves. This will give them time to:

Meet their teachers

Learn classroom routines and schoolwide expectations

Practice navigating the building and their schedules

Connect with WEB student mentors

Build relationships and ask questions

Become comfortable with middle school before the rest of our students arrive

The transition to middle school is a significant step. A larger building, multiple teachers, passing periods, lockers, and a new schedule can be a lot to navigate at once. Investing this time in our sixth graders reflects our commitment to putting students first and giving them the strongest possible start to middle school.

Seventh & Eighth Grade – 10:35 a.m.
Seventh- and eighth-grade students will begin school at 10:35 a.m.

Transportation will operate on a delayed schedule, with buses running approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes later than normal. Buses are expected to arrive in the Selah area during the 9:55–10:15 a.m. window, with SMS students arriving at school at approximately 10:10 a.m. or later.

We understand that some families may not be able to accommodate the delayed start. If a seventh- or eighth-grade student needs to arrive at the regular 7:35 a.m. start time, they may do so. We will have a supervised location and activities available until the regular day begins for them at 10:35 a.m.

All students will follow the regular dismissal schedule at the end of the day.

We believe this approach will give our newest Vikings a calmer, more confident start while allowing us to welcome all students back for a successful school year.

We can't wait to see everyone on August 31!

Our incredible Selah choir performed their end-of-year concert, and then all of us in attendance had the treat of hearing the SHS choir and middle school perform together. We have some exceptionally talented vocalists here in Selah, and I know their friends, family, & of course our school staff were proud of them.
