Today we honor SWHS Class of 2021 graduate and one of our valedictorians, Josiah Vellegas. Josiah is not only graduating from SWHS today but also from Skagit Valley College with an Associate of Science Degree with honors. Next fall, Josiah will be attending the University of Washington. He will be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in physics with plans to go to graduate school for either aerospace or astrophysics. Josiah has been a member of the boy's tennis team throughout high school, earning his Varsity Letter for three years, and was named Team Captain this year. He also played soccer all four years, earning his Varsity Letter for three years, and was Team Captain this year. Even while working a part-time job at Fred Meyer and taking rigorous classes at SVC, Josiah has maintained a perfect 4.0 all four years and has been a National Honor Society member for three years. For all of his hard work, he has been awarded the President’s Medal Award and the Physics Student of the Year Department Award from Skagit Valley College. Josiah has been awarded a Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley Scholarship, a Seattle Pacific University In-State Matching Scholarship Award, a Seattle University Academic Achievement Scholarship, a Western Washington University Admissions Achievement Award, a Skagit Community Scholarship, an Arlington Education Association, and a SW Alumni & Schools Foundation Scholarship. Today we honor SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Karlee Nurmi. Next fall, Karlee will be attending Arizona State University to pursue her studies in chemistry, working towards a career in dermatology. During high school, Karlee was a member of the Varsity Cheer Team, earning a Varsity Letter six times. She has also cheered competitively for seven years with the Northwest Silver Stars. Karlee has been awarded a SW Alumni & Schools Foundation Scholarship, a Sedro-Woolley Rotary Scholarship, and an Arizona State University Dean's Scholarship. Today we celebrate SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Lexi Frizzell. Next fall, Lexi will be attending Western Washington University to study healthcare. Lexi has been a cheerleader all four years of high school and earned eight Varsity Letters. She was also a tennis team member and the National honors society for three years. Lexi's family wants to share just how proud they are of her constant perseverance towards her goals. Lexi was awarded the Lewis and Millie Gruver Memorial Scholarship. Today we celebrate SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Bianca Serrano. Next fall, Bianca will be attending Western Washington University to pursue a degree in business to ultimately become an interior designer. During high school, Bianca was part of the leadership class for three years. Her main focus throughout high school has always been her grades and she has maintained her place on the Honor Roll all four years. Bianca was awarded a Bakerview Community Scholarship, a Western Washington University MAP Scholarship, a Western Washington University Merit Scholarship, a Western Washington University Champions of Diversity Scholarship, a Eastern Washington University University Scholarship, and a Oregon State University Provost Scholarship. Today we honor SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Katie Snodgrass. Next fall, Katie plans to attend Skagit Valley College to study environmental science before transferring to Western Washington University to get her four-year degree in the same field. Throughout high school, Katie has been a member of the CUB band as lead snare in marching band for two years, drummer in the advanced jazz band for three years, and performed two solos over two years. Katie has been awarded the Ernest Tyree Memorial Scholarship and a WCCDA Academic Scholarship. Congratulations on all the hard work, Katie!

Today in the CUB spotlight is SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Emily Johnson. Next fall, Emily plans to attend Skagit Valley College before transferring to Washington State University to study agricultural education. Emily is the owner of Bakerview Blooms greenhouse and plans to spend the next two years growing her business so she can hire an employee. Emily has a passion for agriculture and FFA, and she wants to do all she can to support future generations. Throughout high school, Emily has been an FFA member, acting as an officer all four years, as 2020-2021 Chapter President and District One Vice President. She has also been a member of the Nursery Landscape team for four years and part of the State winning team two years in a row. Emily and her team made it to Nationals in Indianapolis in the fall of 2021. Other FFA events Emily has participated in include food science, floral design, forestry, trap shooting, logger rodeo, and prepared public speaking. Emily has been a member of Varsity in Volunteerism for two and stays active in our community. She has been a member of Sedro-Woolley Students for Life for four years and is the current acting President. Lastly, Emily was inducted into the National Honors Society this year. Emily has been awarded a Sedro-Woolley Community Church Scholarship, a SW Education Association Scholarship, a Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland Future Achievement in Agriculture Award and Scholarship, and a SWASF Robert Benham Scholarship. Today we celebrate SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Jessica Eldridge. This summer, Jessica plans to get her commercial driver’s license (CDL) and start a job with her Dad in the family business, RKE Industries, driving dump trucks and equipment. During her high school, Jessica has completed three SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) projects. She has enjoyed showing livestock (pigs & steers) for FFA and 4H and participated in the FFA trapshooting team. This year she has received her FFA State Degree. Today we honor SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Noelle Belanger. Noelle is not only graduating from SWHS next week but also from Skagit Valley College with her Associate of Arts Direct Transfer Degree. Next fall, Noelle will be attending Washington State University, where she plans to work towards her Bachelor's Degree, although she is still undecided in her major and welcomes suggestions. 🙂 Noelle has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years. She has also enjoyed being involved in many different school activities over the past several years, including tennis, volleyball, sports medicine, and Varsity in Volunteerism. Noelle loves to work hard and has a strong work ethic which is evident in her current job at Hal’s Drive-In. Her family shares how very proud they are of all that she has accomplished, and they are excited to see what is in store for her next. Congratulation on all the hard work, Noelle!

Today we celebrate SWHS Class of 2021 graduate Olivia Isakson. Next fall, Olivia will attend Seattle University to join the Redhawk women's soccer team and pursue a degree in pre-health. Throughout high school, Olivia was active, earning her Varsity Letter all four years on the girl's soccer team, as well as acting as Varsity Team Captain for the 2019 and 2021 seasons. Olivia also participated in track for one year and was a member of the National Honors Society for three years. Olivia has earned many commendations for all of her athletics. She earned the Northwest Conference Girls’ Soccer First Team All-Conference Award for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and the All-Skagit County First Team in midfield for 2017, 2018, and 2019. Olivia was also named the 2019 Sedro Woolley Girls’ Varsity Soccer “Most Valuable Player” and the 2019 Sedro-Woolley High School "Athlete of the Month" for November. Olivia has been awarded a Sedro-Woolley Rotary scholarship, an Academic Scholarship from Seattle U, an Athletic Scholarship from Seattle U, and a SU Redhawk Grant. Congratulations on all your hard work, Olivia!
