☀️ RRS Summer Check List ☀️
Summer is a season of wonder, exploration, and connection with the natural world. At Running River School, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens away from screens and through real-life experiences.
This summer, challenge your child to:
🦋 Chase butterflies
🏖️ Play in the sand
🍉 Eat watermelon
📚 Read outside
🎨 Draw what they see around them
⛺ Go camping
These simple activities help nurture creativity, observation skills, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning all while making beautiful summer memories.
What would you add to your family’s summer checklist? Share your ideas below! 🌿☀️

Looking for a simple and meaningful summer activity?
Rock painting is more than just a fun craft, it supports creativity, concentration, fine motor development, and artistic confidence. By gathering materials from nature and transforming them into colorful works of art, children experience the joy of creating something uniquely their own.
In Waldorf-inspired education, art is not an “extra.” Creative experiences help children develop observation skills, patience, imagination, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
This summer, try collecting a few smooth stones during a family walk and see where your child’s creativity leads. You may be surprised by the stories, designs, and ideas that emerge from a simple paintbrush and a rock.
What would your child paint on their rock? 🌸🎨🪨

Summer learning often looks different than worksheets and desks and that’s the beauty of it.
Baking teaches measurement, sequencing, and patience.
Gardening builds responsibility and scientific observation.
Handwork strengthens focus and fine motor skills.
Reading aloud supports language development and imagination.
Nature walks encourage curiosity, movement, and connection to the world around us.
In Waldorf-inspired education, we believe meaningful learning happens through real-life experiences, not just inside a classroom. Summer offers children the opportunity to slow down, explore, create, and engage deeply with the world around them.
Sometimes the most important learning moments are the simple ones. 🌿☀️

Sometimes the greatest lessons happen outside the classroom. ❤️
On the 8th grade trip, our students experienced unexpected kindness firsthand when a tire issue led them to a local tire shop in Barstow. After noticing the condition of the tires, this incredibly generous business stepped in and replaced all FOUR tires completely free of charge to help keep our students safe on their journey.
We are beyond grateful for this act of generosity, care, and community support. Thank you for reminding our students what compassion in action looks like. The world is better because of people like you. 🚐✨

As more public schools begin limiting classroom screen time, many families are asking an important question:
What does meaningful learning actually look like?
Across the country, educators are reevaluating the role of technology in childhood education. Recognizing the importance of attention, creativity, hands-on learning, social connection, and deep engagement.
Waldorf-inspired education has long centered these ideas.
At RRS, students learn through movement, storytelling, discussion, artistic work, nature, handwork, experimentation, and real human connection. Rather than relying heavily on screens in the early years, we focus on developing strong foundational skills, imagination, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning.
This doesn’t mean rejecting technology. It means being intentional about when and how it is introduced.
Children deserve opportunities to experience the world directly:
📚 reading physical books
🎨 creating with their hands
🗣 engaging in thoughtful conversation
🌿 learning through real-life experiences
As educational conversations continue to evolve, many are rediscovering what Waldorf-inspired education has valued for generations: childhood is not something to rush through.
