At Jdk Social Station we focus on the zones of regulation. We teach no one zone is right and all colors are part of their day. We help to teach our students how we can help them to identify what they are feeling.
The Four Color Zones
• Blue Zone: Low alertness and low energy.
• Feelings: Sad, tired, bored, sick, or lonely.
• What helps: Resting, recharging, or seeking comfort.
• Green Zone: Regulated state of alertness and calm.
• Feelings: Calm, happy, focused, content, and ready to learn.
• What helps: Maintaining momentum with breaks, healthy snacks, or exercise.
• Yellow Zone: Heightened state of alertness with partial control.
• Feelings: Frustrated, anxious, worried, silly, excited, or overwhelmed.
• What helps: Taking deep breaths, practicing mindfulness, or using calming tools with caution.
• Red Zone: Extremely heightened state of alertness and intense, out-of-control emotions.
• Feelings: Anger, rage, panic, terror, or explosive behavior.
• What helps: Pausing, stepping into a safe space, counting, or grounding.
