SUMMER SOLSTICE 2020
Astrological Influences Looking Ahead
As the wheel turns we have again reached the time of Summer Solstice. A time when the fiery light of day ends its dominance and now precedes the moist deep darkness of the approaching night. All the luscious fruits of summer are ripening and as you gather this bounty, it is a great time to pause and reflect on what you are grateful for, what you want to bring into your life, and what you want to release going forward.
These are times of massive change astrologically. Numerous outer planet transits that have presaged global transformations individually in the past now combine to create the mother of all transformations. We would be wise to consider that true revolution may be upon us.
Pluto has been in the sign of Capricorn since 2008 and will remain there until 2023. The last time that Pluto was in Capricorn, from 1762 to 1777 we had the American Revolution and the Industrial Revolution gained traction.
Neptune has been in Pisces since 2011 and will remain there until 2026. The last time it was in Pisces, from 1847 to 1862, we saw the beginning of Communism, the US Confederacy formed and Darwin came out with his theories of evolution.
Uranus started its journey in Ta**us in 2018 and will continue there until 2026. The last time it was in Ta**us was 1934 to 1941 and we were in the midst of the Great Depression and World War II started.
Saturn entered Aquarius in March this year. The last time it was in this sign 1991-1992 we saw the Rodney King riots.
Revolutions — political, industrial and scientific; economic transformations; riots and more. The times are ripe for change. We know one thing only, that this is the time of a Great Turning, of Great Unknowns. We are ushering in a New Era. There will be unknown potentials and challenges arising.
We are called to bring forth the best of all possible worlds for all beings and for our Mother Gaia. In order to be prepared, you will want to ask yourself throughout this year, “What do I need to release in order to make space for what truly matters?”
Saturn and Pluto are Conjunct in Capricorn January 2019 to January 2021
Saturn and Pluto are conjunct approximately every 33–38 years and the influence lasts slightly over two years. This conjunction last occurred in the sign of Capricorn in 1518 when Spain’s King Charles I opened the trans-Atlantic slave trade on a massive scale. The Saturn/Pluto conjunction can be seen as a “global Saturn return” of a karmic nature that applies to the whole world.
It represents a constrained and slow implosion when structures built by Saturn need to undergo the test of time. During this period of testing the pressure has increased to match the deep volcanic nature of Pluto. Anything false and superficial is likely to collapse. As societal structures decay and break down, there is more room to build new foundational elements that ensure the health and survival of the bigger system.
As we initiate this new cycle, the cathartic intensity forces us to dive into our shadow side, to endure. It helps us develop inner focus, determination and courage. We are challenged to persist in the face of opposition, learn to surrender to what’s out of our control and nurture our feelings of grief caused by loss.
Jupiter in Capricorn December 2, 2019 to December 19,2020
Jupiter teaches through expansion and Capricorn brings karmic lessons requiring us to humbly confront truths, to move beyond judgment and duality. Jupiter demands that we grow into and embody the divine consciousness within. It is time to commit to a path of giving structure to an altruistic vision for humanity, one of wisdom, kindness, compassion and temperance, as we continue to explore our own legacy to the world.
Saturn enters Aquarius 3/21/20 until early July, retrogrades back into Capricorn, then enters Aquarius again 12/17/2020 until
Saturn in the Earth sign Capricorn for the past 2 years has signified a focus on material security and consolidation of resources that has been resistant to change. As it begins its move into the Air sign Aquarius, Saturn brings disruption to established orders and dramatic changes in collective ideas and the way we communicate. Saturn here reorders structures and boundaries to make connections, distribute information and develop innovations. Change is in the air. It does give us the capacity to detach from emotional overwhelm in order to analyze the next steps that are necessary for growth and thus can be a source of some strength during this time.
Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Ta**us begins March, 2020 through May, 2020 then picks up again and continues in full force throughout 2021 and 2022
There are sudden and unexpected twists that force us to do something different or free ourselves from old habits. Rules and limitations can feel more challenging to tolerate, but attempts to assert our individuality, freedom, and originality tend to undermine our feelings of groundedness and security. Differences in opinion cause frustration and delays and people may seem less reliable. Uranus in Ta**us will bring down old societal structures. Historically, there have been recessed economic conditions and high unemployment. We are challenged to strike a balance between convention and innovation which will lead to new, more creative paths or solutions as we give form and structure to our ideals in the quest for progress.
Jupiter and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn April, 2020 through November,2020
The conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto dredges up issues with societal structures in need of innovative reform, particularly global economics and systematic oppression. In Capricorn, it taps into the roots of form to discover what truly matters and churns visions of what to manifest from subconscious awareness. There is a need to adjust aspirations to contend with limitations of material resources, available time and space. We see extreme ambition for personal power and these crises bring revisioning of what needs to be nurtured and developed, and what shed and let go.
It is a time to birth ambition and passion from the core. This conjunction invites us to participate in moments of creation, to become absorbed in bridging the immaterial with the material and bring imaginal ideas of the essential, inner purpose you truly desire to achieve into manifestation, without being overly attached to external validation and expectations.
Lunar Nodes shift into Gemini and Sagittarius June 5, 2020 until January 28, 2022
The lunar nodes are a mathematical calculation of the shifting intersection between our orbit on earth with the orbit of the moon and they demarcate eclipses when new moon or full moon aligns in proximity to them. South node in Sagittarius unveils old, familiar issues in need of digesting, decomposing, harvesting and release. With the South node in Sag, Jupiter will offer counsel on resolving and wisely drawing from our beliefs and the way we find meaning in life to rechannel the old into creative expression and spiritual development.
The North node in Gemini points to new choices and growth, ambitious desires and absorption of new material. We are pulled away from preconceived plans and must remain open to being led in new directions to receive new information. It is a time to value curiosity and be willing to question dogmatic viewpoints, listen to and integrate new perspectives.
There can be a tendency to hold beliefs and opinions without gathering the facts, to being self-righteous and running roughshod over others’ feelings, to rushing through life and possessing excess nervous energy, and to lack tact in our relationships with others. We can easily crack under imagined pressures, and we are too often in a hurry for fear that our freedom will be curtailed if we stop long enough to gather facts and consider the details of everyday life. We need to learn to listen to others so that we discover the value of true communication and exchange, and to see both sides of a situation. We want to have meaningful and intelligent exchanges with others, and we want to teach others as well. But in order for us to succeed with these things, we need to learn that true learning and exchanges can only come when we listen to others. Learning to slow down, to be sensitive to social graces and networks, and to sensitize ourselves to others’ needs and communications without fear of being tied down, will release us from some of our nervous tension and help us achieve more happiness and inner balance. Take the initiative to connect, stay curious, be adaptable, and lighten up your approach to life.
Venus Retrograde May 13, 2020, Direct June 25, 2020 at 6 Gemini
Venus retrograde in Gemini has incited revisioning and revaluation in relationships. We may have seen deep seated changes in our underlying values and finances and the way they manifest into aspirations in both relationships and in our work in the world.
Lunar Eclipse Sagittarius June 5, 2020
Expect the unexpected for the next 6 months. Moon is conjunct the south node of Uranus, and sun is conjunct its north node. Mars in Pisces is square the eclipse and it blurs the distinction between true/false, fact/fiction, nartural/artificial, and one/the other. When negative, Mars can attack by stealth or create disillusionment or loss. When it is positive, Mars creates synthesis that draws from the best of all worlds. in Pisces, Mars pertains to masses, hospitals, rescue missions, and large scale events. Mercury in Cancer squares Chiron in Aries during the eclipse and that increases the emotional reactive element pertaining to key issues. There has been a domino effect of Covid 19 around the world. Stakes are high and the deck is loaded. In Sagittarius, the lunar eclipse increases or escalates everything — protests, social contagion, market action, politics, weather, etc.
Mercury Retrograde June 17, 2020 to July 12, 2020
Mercury will be in the watery sign of Cancer from May until August 5th. In the sign Cancer, a retrograde Mercury delves into the past and recalls it over and over, continuously returning to the family home and hearth. We tend to probe and question the emotional undercurrents and unconscious patterns that underlie our perception and communications. It may be difficult for people to let go of old and painful memories and forgive even childhood enemies because unpleasant events and unkind words are often relived. This placement asks the question “Do we want to repeat the past?” It will also highlight areas of tension within the home. If you have been neglecting issues in your family life, this is the time to bring those issues to the forefront in order to be resolved. With Venus retrograde after the lunar nodes shift, major lessons will involve finding new ways to communicate our emotional needs within relationships. It is a time to find our home within ourselves, creating an inner stability that will allow us to flourish in the long term. There is an emphasis also on nourishment and nurturing, diet, food, water, safety, and security on all levels.
Solar Eclipse and the Summer Solstice in Cancer, June 20, 2020
This eclipse coincides with the summer solstice. At the solar eclipse, intuition (the Moon), wordless and irrational, overpowers your creative center and power (the Sun). The result is a bit like a short-circuit of your internal wiring. the fundamental laws of the universe no longer apply. We will feel the baselines shifting as reality moves along a fluid course. Solar eclipses seem much more physically affecting than lunar ones, more unnerving, and the past themes they evoke – themes from nine, eighteen years ago – are anything but subtle. They are big events, and evoke the feeling that something big is changing in the landscape of your life. You sense that something is trying to get your attention.
People from the past or the present appear on the scene to behave in inexplicable ways. The person you used to be, the one you thought you’d outgrown, is trotted out in front of you as a reminder that you really haven’t changed all that much. What is the part of you that you’re trying to disown? Let the Moon guide you, like a wise mother, toward self-acceptance and humility.
The awakening of the feminine force of fierce love is a hallmark of our times – especially since 2018, when a series of eclipses in Cancer began. This New Moon solar eclipse will be the last eclipse in the sign of the Great Mother, concluding this series. As the Sun stands still at the Solstice, it opens a powerful portal through which new energies can flow to Earth. And, since this solar eclipse is sandwiched between two lunar eclipses, its effects are heightened. Solar eclipses often coincide with major turning points like the downfall of rulers, especially when falling at the powerful zero degree of Cancer – and even more so for a Cancerian country like the U.S. (The last time there was a solar eclipse on the day of the Cancer Solstice was June 21, 2001 – a few months before the shocking events of Sept. 11.) In other words, this eclipse is a mother!
Mercury is retrograde during this time and things could get more tricky than they already are but that may not be a bad thing. Miraculous things are born from chaos. No matter how crazy life gets, you can rest assured that it’s all part of our awakening to power. The Divine Feminine is arising from a long slumber, and we’re experiencing the birth pains of a new world. Birth is messy and chaotic! Yet it has a very sacred purpose. During this potent period, get back to your roots.Call on strong (especially female) ancestors who made it through great challenges.Take a “divine pause” as you search your deepest self for wisdom. Stay connected to the Earth and your body, and treat yourself gently. And, remember your true nature as a co-creator with the Divine!
Neptune Retrograde in Pisces June 23, 2020 to November 28, 2020
When Neptune is direct you look for experiences of oneness outside of yourself, and when Neptune is retrograde you seek oneness within yourself. During this phase, you may experience heightened intuition, lucid dreaming, and an increased interest in the supernatural. The retrograde in Pisces represents the tendency to disconnect from reality. The foggy nature of Neptune becomes removed and the truth becomes visible. Fears and feelings of anxiousness may increase when the fog clears and reality sets in. The deeper you have descended into escapism, the greater the shock may be as toxic behaviors and addictions re-emerge.
This cycle brings the total to SIX planets currently in retrograde, making it an ideal time for deep personal review and introspection. By connecting with your Spiritual source you can use this opportunity to face and deal with the issues you have denied and dismissed. With the planet Mars close by in Pisces, this cycle can stimulate our Spiritual drive. Neptune in retrograde can help you discover the source of your pain which can be a catalyst for spiritual growth. Neptune wants to dissolve our ego so that we can be at one with ourselves, others, and our Spiritual Source, in the light of newfound personal truth. The illusion of separation is lifted and the message is that we are all united.
Mars Retrograde in Aries September 9, 2020 until November 13, 2020
Whatever was set in motion in June and July further intensifies. Slow burn, even simmering discontent, is the dominant theme of the final quarter of the year as it squares Pluto and Saturn. This can be frustrating and block ones motivation for forward focus, but it creates the potential for realigning with ones most deeply felt desires.
Mars square Saturn/Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn September, 2020
Numerous polarizing conflicts arise throughout the world, both sides are overly defensive and persecuting the other side. Personally, it is beneficial to take responsibility for exploring and integrating one’s shadow, thereby being less prone to project onto others and create additional conflict. Have compassion for those who struggle. Claim responsibility for your own behavior.
Lunar Eclipse in Gemini November 13, 2020
Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius December 14, 2020
Setting the stage for long anticipated conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the first degree of Aquarius on the Winter Solstice.
Jupiter/Saturn conjunction at 1 degree Aquarius December 21, 2020
Establishing an astrological era of Jupiter and Saturn in air signs that will continue until the year 2159.
This new cycle holds extraordinary significance. It remains in the same element for 200 years, Since 1802 these conjunctions have been in earth signs, the final one occurred on May 28, 2000 in Ta**us. Earth signifies a focus on material security and the consolidation of resources that is resistant to change.
Air brings disruption to established orders and dramatic changes in collective ideas and the way we communicate. This Great Conjunction every 20 years is the best method for demarcating historical eras in traditional astrology. At these times, one feels the intensity of old forms resurfacing for resolution or death and anticipation builds as one sense the fertility of new growth beginning to take shape. This transpired in 1980 and again in 2000.
Combine expansive/imaginative vision with structure and discipline need to manifest results and strip away the inessential. Generosity fortunate opportunities, egoic greed and delusions of grandeur. Saturn contemplative focus trim excess and strengthen what’s ripening. Inspirational revitalization to mediate negative side that brings fear over limitations and obstacles, leading to depressive stagnation. Constant balancing act of tempering between Jupiter and Saturn with a need to shift in between the synthesizing growth of Jupiter and the methodical reordering of Saturn.
They will also form a square with Uranus in Ta**us. Lightening bolts of Jupiter and Uranus will not only bring down old societal structures but impel us to release old personal dreams and drama we’ve been attached to. New challenges and unknown potential arising with this new era and we need to make space in our lives.
We collectively enter an era of Jupiter and Saturn uniting in air signs. Constant balancing act of tempering between Jupiter and Saturn with a need to shift in between the synthesizing growth of Jupiter and the methodical reordering of Saturn.
