Helping students and families navigate the college application process with expertise and a bit of humor. Applying to college or university can be overwhelming.

I help students and their families prepare for and navigate the process with personalized and individualized attention. I advise students based on their interests and abilities; I don’t use a “one size fits all” strategy. With over 15 years of experience working with high school students from the US and beyond, I help make the process less intimidating and more fun. All students are individuals. My personalized approach allows me to cater to my students’ specific needs. I work with students and families to empower them to discover the best fit in terms of their college list and choices.

Last summer, while visiting Wales, I stopped by Cardiff University. I was impressed with all it has to offer. As part of the Russell Group, Cardiff offers strong academics with ample research opportunities. Having spent two and a half weeks in Wales, I can attest that it is one of the friendliest countries I have ever been too. Diolch!

🗼 College Visit Recap: Paris, France

Two weeks ago, Garfield College Counseling had the opportunity to visit eight outstanding universities in Paris. Here’s a quick look at what we learned:

🎓 American University of Paris – AUP offers a distinctive American liberal arts education in an international setting, drawing students from over 100 countries. A compelling option for students seeking a global perspective without leaving behind a familiar academic structure.
🎓 Albert School – A forward-thinking business school built arount 4 main pillars: mathematics, data, business, and humanities. Albert stands out for its project based, data driven approach to business education.
🎓 Sciences Po – One of France’s most prestigious grandes écoles, Sciences Po has a long history of producing world leaders in politics, diplomacy, and public policy. A highly selective institution worth exploring for academically driven students. (Fun fact: the International Affairs Manager for the USA is from Bangor, Maine-about 40 miles from where I grew up.)
🎓 Parsons Paris – The Paris campus of the renowned Parsons School of Design offers students the chance to study art and design in one of the world’s most culturally rich cities — a natural fit for creatively inclined students.
🎓 ESSEC Business School – Consistently ranked among the top business schools in Europe, ESSEC is known for its strong emphasis on social responsibility and its highly customizable curriculum.
🎓 ESCP Business School – With campuses across six European cities, ESCP holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest business school, founded in Paris in 1819. A truly pan-European experience.
🎓 Istituto Marangoni Paris – A globally recognized fashion and design school, Istituto Marangoni has launched the careers of industry icons and remains one of the most sought-after names in fashion education.
🎓 Paris College of Art – An English-language art and design school in the heart of Paris, PCA offers a close-knit, studio-based environment ideal for students who want an immersive creative education abroad.

So I spent last week in Paris visiting colleges and attending the IECA European Symposium. What a fantastic week. More to come once I get home and get my pictures organized.

Thanks to all at the University of Manchester for taking the time with all of us counselors and showing us what the university is all about!

Ok so I’m not very good about posting! But I’m on my way to Detroit for the IECA conference and some college tours. Looking forward to connecting with colleagues from near and far!

Really enjoyed my visit to Lawrence University! Lawrence University Elaine Cataneo

Waiting for my tour to start. The potential college students are quiet and nervous. And sitting in the back, trying to ignore their parents.

I’ve been in Spokane these last few days attending the SuperACAC conference. Before the conference, I visited a few schools. First two:
Washington State University: very accessible, strong business program with lots of offerings, non-direct entry nursing and engineering and affordable (Western Undergraduate Exchange-WUE-scholarship.)

University of Idaho: smaller than WSU (but only about 10 miles away), strong, direct entry engineering, NASA-approved program. 30% of students participate in Greek life but students say the social scene isn’t dominated by it. Also a WUE school.

Last college on tour: Shenandoah University. They gave us a big welcome! The esports program is exceptional and has a virtual reality design major. Well known for its conservatory. Very professionally driven—not a liberal arts college. Nursing program is direct admit but students can also transfer in. Has the highest NCLEX pass rate in Virginia.
