Tree House Hollow Preschool

Tree House Hollow Preschool We are a non-profit Nature Based school in West Sebastopol. Our philosophy combines many, with Play- Organic food served up with lots of love.

Tree House Hollow was invited on to the Apple Blossom Campus in 2007. We are a non-profit 501 c3 organization dedicated to providing a Program that will allow the beautiful spirit of each and every child to flourish. It is our goal to help children fully engage their natural sense of curiosity and to provide plenty of opportunity for children to explore their interests, develop new ones, and learn

how to get along in their world. By fostering a community where cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution are valued, Tree House Hollow supports children as they learn and grow. An emphasis is placed on instilling a reverence for Mother Earth by exploring nature through field trips, art, stories, songs and movement. These experiences give children a spiritual foundation and a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Tree House Hollow provides a magical, fun experience for preschoolers.

On a visit this week to Flat Rock Park, the children tested out some new bug and fish catching tools. Our Adventure Day teacher spotted a school of GIANT tadpoles and made their way over to collect some to the sounds of children cheering their name. An exciting quest, to be sure!

We recently had a visit from some baby chicks, and so we've been exploring different ideas around birds and their eggs. One of the teachers had set out an invitation to play with these plastic eggs, pompoms, and a large wooden plank. At some point a rubberband was added to the plank and the kids invented a mechanism for "cracking" open the plastic eggs - by sliding them under the band right at the joining edges and pressing down on the sides of the band, leading the egg to "crack" open! They were offered more bands so they could show other children how it worked and soon they had a whole team of egg crackers! Always delighted to see what inventions these tiny humans come up with when we step back and just let them explore. πŸ₯°

"This flag is a warning - it means runaway!!"
"Yeah, runaway from us!"
"Or! That - if you come to us we will give you poison candy and it will turn you into one of our crew!"
"We are looking for sea monsters - they are our friends."
"But if we see people...we fight them!"
"Why do you fight them?"
"Because we wanna have a big crew- the biggest crew - and we want them to join us!"
"But, so, we really just give them the candy, we don't really much fight them. The candy is the best way."
"Just so you know, the candy has ivy in it, and ivy is poisonous. Yeah, but we can eat ivy and it's fine - because that's our favorite one."
"We have the biggest crew now. Do you want some of this candy?"

Recently, the kids at Creekside have been very interested in the idea of ships, adventurers, and pirates! We decided to put together an adventure ship under our indoor loft, and the kids thought perhaps we needed a flag (or maybe ten flags!) to adorn our loft area with. Today, we got to work creating our first flag. We talked about what a flag on a ship is for - it's the way to tell people from far away who you are so they know whether it's a good idea to come say hello or not - and that each flag is different and how people design them together. The children sketched their ideas out in chalk, and then painted over them - they were delighted with the result!
