When a riders equitation has achieved a level of awareness and ability to manage its equilibrium, only then can a conversation happen between horse and rider that does not go sideways. Our goal being to help the horse find their equilibrium both physically and mentally, bringing both horse and rider into union through this mutual relationship of balance. A rider who can function on this level is both alert and calm and able to channel the horses energies through the hand by way of perceptive body language that both directs and filters the energies that are freed in the horse.
When horses block or become resistant to the forward ask, it is the rider's responsibility to have the awareness of oneself and understanding of why this issue has occurred. Blocking is often times a lack of understanding the horse's nature and desire to be confident in their balance.
The horses strength is developed aswell as a well prepared back by riding in alignment where the horse has full use of it's neck, working on lateral suppleness that is developed from that alignment, and eventually this enables said horse to move more easily over their back. Then the capable rider can further aid the horse to a greater level of self carriage.
Without developing the rider's equitation first and their understanding of their effect on their horse, too much is to be missed, and the confusion and miscommunication begins for both horse and rider.. The principles are there to guide us, the horse tells us what works, IF we listen? Do you have the love, the desire and the patience to learn the horse's language? The goal is a healthy and well balanced relationship. Horses are not machines to do your bidding, however, they do provide an excellent opportunity to learn and grow and develop into a better human that understands what mental and physical balance is, and how they go hand in hand!
