Thank you Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber for shining a spotlight on our incredible photography instructor, Ray Pfortner!

Through his lens, Ray Pfortner teaches others to see - Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber On a misty morning in 1994, Ray Pfortner stood on the gravelly shore of a Vashon beach with his camera in hand. The quiet morning broke when a black dorsal fin exhaled through the surface of the Salish Sea yards away.

May is American Wetlands Month!

Along with the Society of Wetland Scientists PNW Chapter, we were happy to host Continuum Connections, bringing together Pacific Northwest wetlands professionals, along with current students and alumni of the UW Certificate in Wetland Science & Management, for an evening of community, learning, and networking.

It was energizing to connect, share experiences, and hear about the inspiring work happening across our community. A highlight of the evening was a talk by Royal Gardner, author of Waters of the United States: POTUS, SCOTUS, WOTUS, and the Politics of a National Resource, followed by a book signing—an engaging addition to a memorable event!
