Dr. Locklear is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Her research centers on urban Indigenous housing outcomes and the experiences of colorism for AI/AN people across the U.S.

🫂Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remind us that it's never to late to take action. When we stand together we have the power to protect our people.

🫶🏽 UIHI's Heroes Carry Narcan initiative is a direct response to the ongoing opioid crisis impacting our people. We believe knowing how to use Narcan is an act of love. This video is a quick guide on what to do when someone is experiencing an overdose.

A career opportunity is now open at Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI). We are hiring a Program Associate for day-to-day coordination of midscale project activities in support of UIHI's public health programming.

Responsibilities include project planning and coordination, project development, consultant oversight, and reporting. Specific tasks include:
🔺 responding to data requests
🔺 conducting literature reviews
🔺 maintaining databases
🔺 leading cross-agency working groups
🔺 providing technical assistance to the Urban Indian Health Network and other stakeholders.

Our interns are wrapping up their time here with us at UIHI, and we’re so grateful for their contributions!

Here are a few highlights from our interns’ presentation last week:

🎁 Katie (Squaxin Island) worked on the First Gift Program with Family Services.
🚲 Marcus (Navajo, Hawaiian) worked on a bike-safety booklet and an evaluation-related toolkit for Urban Indian Organizations.
🌟 Olivia (Muckleshoot, Skokomish, Squaxin Island) packed and shipped Heroes Carry Narcan kits to Urban Indian Organizations across the country.
🩺 Daya (Navajo) updated our Su***de Prevention and Mental Health Resource booklet.
