School Violence A Public Health Issue
It's time to do what the government hasn't been able to do: reduce school violence, putting the power to make this change in the very hands of those most worried about it--parents, students, school staff, safety resource officers, and school site psychologists. Check us out at www.noschoolviolence.org
We are harnessing the universe of bi
g data, building a smart database and using five research approaches to explore the invisible pre-violent world of adolescent behavior, tracing how certain seemingly unrelated behaviors form patterns that precede violent acts. Our goal is serve the needs of what so many parents of violent children, researchers, schools, and communities have asked for: a clue, a signal, a sign, some forewarning of what to look for before any of the seven kinds of school violence occur. We want to go further than the FBI’s Behavior Threat Assessment Center or other national violence tools and their reliance on public notification of suspicious activities. If Netflix or Amazon can know what you like, if finding out that the chances of getting ovarian cancer are lessened with taking beta blockers, or if living close to an airport causes neuro-degenerative illness, or to know why red buses are always later than blue buses or how to predict the time a race car finishes a race, why can't the data sciences, good data, and the best research help us discover how the invisible world of impulses and desires become manifest as behavior patterns that become part of the violence mosaic. We want to provide a free app that identifies potential behaviors or patterns leading to violence so that schools, parents, researchers, mental health professionals, and communities can be better informed about how to deal with school violence.
