Voices of the River is accepting submissions for its 5th annual journal—Sacred Waters—but the deadline is approaching quickly - Submit by June 1!

Created in partnership with Oregon State University, this special edition explores the meaning of water to Indigenous peoples across the region. From hot springs and rapids to riffles and waterfalls, these places carry deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance—and hold stories of protection, use, resilience, and ongoing struggle.

We’re inviting Indigenous creators and researchers to share work rooted in these relationships.

We’re seeking:
• Indigenous-authored research on Columbia River systems and regional watersheds
• Art, poetry, essays, oral history analysis, and fiction connected to water and place

Deadline: June 1, 2026 at 11:50 PM PST
Selected contributors will be published and compensated.
