PCNW is excited to present our fourth year of "Photography as an Agent for Change", a workshop series exploring photography as a tool for advancement in racial equity, social justice, environmental justice, visual literacy, creative practice, storytelling, and cross cultural communications. PCNW seeks proposals for curriculum that further these ideas and values. The workshops are intended to reach a broad, diverse audience and be as accessible as possible. As such, it is a priority that the workshops be free and open to all and may be held online or in person. Proposals that consider teaching beyond the traditional classroom walls are encouraged, so think outside the box!
Deadline:
February 15th, 2025
The workshop series will launch in Spring 2025 and include a total of 3-5 workshops. Workshops will be scheduled on mutually agreeable dates, and will occur between April and August of 2025. Proposals may be submitted by individuals, teaching teams, organizations, and/or collectives.
Made possible by support from 4Culture and Office of Arts & Culture Seattle

Join us for a special talk with renowned Bay Area-based bookbinder John DeMerritt as he shares the unique editions of books, boxes, and housings he creates for artists, galleries, fine art publishers, and institutions.
John will discuss how he has developed his studio practice and his origins as an edition binder. Much of John’s recent commissioned work has been to create housings for digital media art projects. This has propelled him into new areas of edition binding that require him to embrace new technologies and expand the traditional role of the binder in terms of ‘book’ work.
This year, John began working at Arion Press, where he has been able to incorporate new ideas and techniques of edition binding into the larger, traditional publishing program at Arion. Using these projects as a platform, John will discuss how working with new media and formats has simultaneously transformed his studio practice and reinforced its traditional origins.
February 7, 2025 | Friday 6 - 8 pm
This talk is free w/ RSVP.

CLOSING THIS WEEK: Victoria Sambunaris: Traces of the Manifest, on view in the PCNW Gallery October through December 15, 2024
'Traces of the Manifest' encompasses photographs, ephemera, and videos made by Victoria Sambunaris between 2015 and 2023. The exhibition uncovers new meanings and alternative perceptions beyond Sambunaris’ well-known or customary large-scale murals of American landscape which examine the external imprint from deep time to human time. By showing artifacts, found objects, and photographs this exhibition reveals the working method, perceptions, intimacies, and even unconscious views that are part of the essential and incidental elements of Sambunaris’ work as a photographer and explorer.
Photographs from the Texas Gulf Coast to the desert regions of southern California reveal three dimensions of the animating forces behind Sambunaris’ larger concerns: the impact of industrial sites, geological forces, and human traces found in landscape today. The intimate scale of this exhibition has given Sambunaris the opportunity to include journals, road logs, gifts, mineral collections, books, and snapshot documentation to reveal a personal story of her time on the road.
If you haven't checked this out yet, this week is your last chance!
This exhibition is made possible by the generous support of 4Culture.

Photography is more than just a skill—it’s a powerful medium for storytelling, connection, and self-expression.
At PCNW, we believe that anyone who walks through our doors deserves the opportunity to explore the photographic arts, regardless of financial barriers.
A student that we have been proud to help is scholarship recipient, Leonidas Enetanya.
Leonidas sheds light on the importance of receiving a scholarship, one of many ways that we provide accessible education:
“The classes I took at PCNW are part of the foundation from which my mastery of photography continues to develop…Without that most basic knowledge, your range of expression and understanding is severely limited. I wouldn’t be who I am if I hadn’t had the opportunity to learn to read and write. Similarly, if this scholarship hadn’t been available to me, I wouldn’t be the photographer I am now.”
-Leonidas Enetanya
Leonidas’ story is a testament to the transformative power of photography and the impact of accessibility. This Giving Tuesday, will you help us open the classroom door to more students in 2025?
Today only every donation will be matched up to $5,600 thanks to our generous community members! No time like the present to support your home for photography.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 by December 31st to expand our scholarship fund, free exhibitions, artist talks, and professional development workshops, ensuring that aspiring photographers have access to all types of photographic education.
Our community is stronger when everyone has equal opportunities.
Thank you for helping us empower more aspiring students through our scholarship program. Together, we can make this happen.
