πΈ Join us this Monday (5/31) from 1-2 p.m. for our virtual speaker series, Artist as Storyteller: Adaptation, Resiliency, and Environmental Justice, with photographer Binh Danh!
A Conversation with Binh Danh, May 31 (1-2 p.m.)
Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83941681487
For more information, visit: https://artistasstoryteller.cargo.site/Binh-Danh
In this conversation, weβll talk to Binh Danh about creating images about histories, identity, and place. We will explore Danhβs photographic processes and other investigative practices about memories and the trauma of diasporic experiences.
Artist Bio:
Binh Danh reconfigures traditional photographic techniques and processes in unconventional ways to delve into the connection between history, identity, and place. As a child who immigrated to the US from war-torn Vietnam in 1979, the memories and trauma of his diasporic experience serve as the foundation for his investigative practice. In his highly acclaimed series of chlorophyll prints, Danh uses photosynthesis to print portraits from the Vietnam War era directly onto the surfaces of leaves. Danh is also noted for his contemporary daguerreotypes of national parks. Their reflective surfaces enable people of all backgrounds to see themselves as a part of the beauty of the American landscape.
Artist as Storyteller Speaker Series:
Supported by the Seattle Colleges Performing Arts Fund, the Artist as Storyteller speaker series welcomes BIPOC artists, performers, and activists to share their work and connect with students about what it means to be an artist in todayβs social and cultural climate. The series emphasizes the art-making and storytelling process as it relates to the individual and community.
