🚰 A WA state law requiring lead testing in school drinking water is already making a big impact. The legislation uncovered a kindergarten sink with 323 ppb of lead in Edmonds School District.
This landmark policy was driven by HSPOP MPH students in the Community-Oriented Public Health Practice Program who collaborated with instructor & State Rep. Gerry Pollet to research, draft, and advocate for the bill.
It’s public health in action: student-led, equity-focused, and rooted in community protection. Read more at: https://loom.ly/WVkdweo

“You have power that's inherent to you—and no one can take that from you."
Jae Williams, MPH student in the COPHP program, brought this message to life at her capstone event: Unlocking Your Power Within, a one-day conference for girls of color in Lynnwood. With Project Girl, Williams created a space to inspire and uplift girls, help them tap into their unique strengths and build lasting connections —tackling everything from goal setting to resilience in the face of systemic barriers like adultification and school push-out that Black girls face.
From the classroom to community action, Williams’ work is a powerful example of public health rooted in justice and care. Read more at: https://hspop.uw.edu/unlock-your-power-within/

What made YOU fall in love with YOUR research area?
"I first became passionate about sexual and reproductive health while taking the class S*x, Gender and the Brain...The class demonstrated to me how scientists could meld science with feminist theory and, more specifically, how the intentional distribution of misinformation online provides another tool to limit bodily autonomy." - Zoe Pleasure
