A brand-new soccer experience is coming to our community! This new platform is all about helping kids get tons of touches on the ball in a fun, fast-paced 3v3 format that keeps everyone moving, playing, and smiling. With smaller teams and more action, players build skills, confidence, and creativity while enjoying the game in a playful environment.

Join us for our first tournament on March 29 at Loyal Heights Playfield! It’s a great chance for kids to try a fresh style of soccer that focuses on fun, teamwork, and lots of time on the ball. Stay tuned for details and registration information on the attached flyer!

Part of the holiday tradition at Loyal Heights is the Giving Hands. It is a way to lend a hand during this time of year. The Giving Hands program is a way to grant wishes for families in our school community. If you want to participate please come to the schools lobby on Friday, December 5th, before or after school, to choose a hand along with the directions.

If you have any questions please contact Kathy Katzen at 206-252-6000 or [email protected]

Holiday Staff Appreciation Gifts

As we collect for this year’s holiday gifts, please note that 30% of all funds received will be used to purchase gift cards for our incredible staff members who do not have classrooms. This system has worked wonderfully over the past few years and is always deeply appreciated by our support staff.

To ensure I have enough time to purchase, ship, and label all gift cards, please send all contributions no later than December 12. (Your room parent will let you know how to donate money to the class gift. 30% of the total collected will be sent to us.)

Thank you for helping us make every staff member feel valued this holiday season!

Support Our Community During the Government Shutdown with Grocery Gift Card Donations

The current federal funding challenges are affecting families in the Beaver community. We know this is a particularly hard time for some of us, which is why we need to come together and offer some help to families particularly affected by the shutdown. SNAP and WIC benefits, as well as federal salaries, will be on pause during November and families need to make up that gap in resources, which is where we can offer some support.

One of the best ways to help is by offering gift cards to Fred Meyer or Safeway as these monies can be used for all sorts of things that families will need.

If you can, please buy smaller denominations (e.g. $25) of gift cards from Fred Meyer or Safeway.

You can deliver gift cards to Kathy Katzen in the office. Or you can reach out to or Michelle Urberg for pickup at a convenient time ([email protected] or [email protected]) or Venmo
Michelle (-urberg-1, last four 3026) with your donation. Donations will be accepted until the federal shutdown is over.

If your family needs support, please reach out to Kathy Katzen for further information

Who is excited for the 2025-2026 School Year?! As everyone is buzzing about teacher assignments and preparing for next week, we are asking each parent to PLEASE take a few minutes to sign up for the PTA this year at https://wspta-00023235.givebacks.com/shop!

The more members we have, the louder voice LHE has to speak up for your child and impact decisions affecting your child's health, safety and quality of education. There is strength in numbers and increasing PTA membership, even just by one, makes it possible to fund essential school resources and curriculum at Loyal Heights Elementary. We invite you to join, as we can do more together than apart!

You'll see different membership options as well as an opportunity to donate $10 to the Copy Paper Fund. (Isn't it nice not having to haul in reams of paper on the first day of school?!)

If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Wishing everyone a strong start to the school year!

LHE Advocates for Our Schools

Update on School Closings

Thanks to the advocacy of our Loyal Heights community and hundreds of families across the district, Superintendent Jones announced his intention to withdraw his school closure plans at the school board meeting on November 19th. The School Board officially voted to approve the withdrawal of these plans on November 26th. As such, there will be no school closings during the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a HUGE win for all of us.

Our community must now turn its attention to the legislature and advocate for our schools to be fully funded. The 2025 Washington State legislative session starts on January 8th and given the current state of education funding, this year will be critical. Our voices matter, and legislators want (and need!) to hear from us.

We urge our community to remain engaged during the upcoming legislative session. Stay tuned for action items we will be announcing in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can take these initial steps.

What You Can Do Now:

1. Write a thank you email to the SPS School Board for Listening to Families. Click HERE to fill out an email form:
https://ujoin.co/campaigns/3253/actions/public?action_id=4424

2. Sign up for WA State PTA Action Alerts to stay up to date on upcoming bills.
https://www.wastatepta.org/focus-areas/advocacy/action-alerts/

3. Write your state legislators and ask them to fully fund our schools - in particular special education, transportation and MSOC (Materials, Safety and Operating Costs). Loyal Heights is part of the 36th Legislative District.

Thank you all for your time and advocacy on behalf of our children.
