Join us Wednesday, January 8 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm in Architecture Hall, room 160 for "Sustainable Latin American Cities: Lecture 1 of 4: Introduction to Latin America Urban Sustainability". This lecture explores the dynamics of urbanization in Latin America, examining sustainability through a regional lens. Key topics include urbanization trends, the intersection of global and local sustainability frameworks, and challenges such as urban inequality, scale of cities, from sprawling megacities to rural communities, to identify strategies for fostering socially and environmentally sustainable urban development.

Why is homelessness more prevalent in some cities than others? Gregg Colburn, Associate Professor in the Runstad Department of Real Estate, and Clayton Page Aldern challenge common assumptions and show how housing market conditions—especially cost and availability—offer a more compelling explanation. Their research reveals why cities like Seattle experience higher rates of homelessness compared to cities like Chicago.
