Morningside Academy

Morningside Academy: elementary & middle school students meet and exceed academic grade level skills! Dr. Kent Johnson founded Morningside in Seattle in 1980.

Morningside has two programs: a non-profit school for children and youth, and a teachers' academy. Morningside Academy's school helps both elementary and middle school students to catch up and get ahead. Its students have not previously reached their potential; many have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or ADD/ADHD; all have average to well above average intelligenc

Operating as usual

Here's a little peek into what we do on professional development days around here: Kent, Andrew, and Adam spent time talking about classroom projects and upcoming ABAI presentations today.

Students at Morningside can use the points they earn in class to go on outings with faculty and staff. This student saved up lots of points and was able to go for a manicure and pedicure with the principal before winter break!

Check out what students are reading around Morningside this week!

In addition to teaching each day, Daniel also spends time on progress monitoring. He works with students in every class at Morningside to make sure they're meeting goals and progressing as expected. Daniel really enjoys his unique role here because it allows him to get to know all of our students while building his own instruction and assessment skills.

Have you ever wondered what we do at Morningside on Professional Development days? Yesterday we worked on progress monitoring, discussed a chapter in the book we're reading together, and learned about TA from Kent. We love having these days to focus on our growth as educators and as an organization but we're happy to have students back in the building today!

The Andrew and Andrew show in the heartland!

Many thanks to KSDE TASN (Kansas Technical Assistance System Network) for inviting Executive Director Andrew Kieta and Morningside coach Dr. Andrew Bulla for a fun-filled two-day training on using Precision Teaching to make MTSS systems work for ALL learners! Can't wait to work with this great group of teachers again!

We had a blast kicking off the second year of our partnership with Icelandic schools Urriðaholtsskóli and Arnarskóli! Executive Director Andrew Kieta, Morningside coach Laura Grant, and new Morningside coach Amy Evans spent a week training and coaching an amazing team of Icelandic teachers to implement Precision Teaching and explicit instruction! The work that Una Guðrún Einarsdóttir and her team are doing is remarkable!
