New class! Improv 101 - starts Sunday March 10

In this Seattle improv class, we’ll learn the fundamentals of improvisational acting, i.e, acting without scripts.

Exercises include “present time”, listening and responding, “Yes!”, “Yes, and!”, “Emotional fruit salad”, free association, and creating short scenes and characters. We’ll begin with foundational exercises, then move on to starting with a short script and using improv to find the characters’ backstories and motivations.

When: Sundays, 5 pm-7 pm.
March 10-March 31 (four meetings)
Where: Phinney Neighborhood Center (lower building)

Acting is fun — and it can be life-changing. In this enjoyable four-week class, you’ll learn how to create characters, memorize dialogue, and perform scenes in front of the class. We’ll do warm­-ups and theater games, improv and scene work.
You’ll also get information about Seattle’s film and theater scenes, and learn about auditioning opportunities in Seattle. Plus: How to use your voice, body and emotions as acting tools.

Whether you’re taking an acting class just for fun, to get over your stage fright and get more comfortable in front of people, or have professional aspirations to act in television or movies or on stage –– everyone is welcome.

If you’re new to acting, start with this class. It can be taken independently or applied toward our Acting Fundamentals Certificate Program.

Starts Tuesday March 8: In-Person: STAND UP COMEDY 101

This fun, intensive standup comedy workshop is designed for anyone who has ever wanted to try, or learn about stand up comedy. Over the course of four weeks you will learn about the craft of standup comedy through practice and experimentation. Each student works towards the goals they set for class and are coached toward them individually. Fourth meeting is a performance in front of a live audience at a comedy club in Seattle!

ACTING INTENSIVE 1 – FOUR SHORT SCENES.
A fun and challenging four-week in-person acting class focused on memorizing and performing short scenes.
Every week is a new and different scene. You’ll be asked to perform ALL of the characters in all of the scenes.
Open to everyone who has taken a beginning acting class.
This class meets in a very large well-ventilated indoor space in the north Seattle (Ballard).
It's for people who've had both vaccines and feel comfortable meeting in person.
If some variant of Covid flares up that makes it inadvisable to meet in person (even for vaccinated folks), students will be offered the choice switching to a Zoom class or getting a refund. But for now we're reserving the space and assuming this class will meet in person.

Starts Tues. 3/2/21: DRAWING IN COLORED PENCIL: A beginning level class. Have fun exploring colors and shapes. We’ll draw flowers, trees, simple objects, and more.

Starts Saturday 3/6/21: BEGINNING PAINTING – IN OILS OR ACRYLICS: In this class, you’ll learn the techniques of the Old Masters, including glazing, impasto and palette knife painting techniques, producing a finished realistic painting with inner glow and lasting beauty.
