Savoring spring over here with 886 pictures of flowers on my phone. Anyone else?

This piece of art is displayed in my kitchen as a reminder. It seems more relevant now than ever. “This is your assignment. Feel all the things. Feel the hard things. The inexplicable things, the things that make you disavow humanity’s capacity for redemption. Feel all the maddening paradoxes. Feel overwhelmed, crazy. Feel uncertain. Feel angry. Feel afraid. Feel powerless. Feel frozen. And then FOCUS. Pick up your pen. Pick up your paintbrush. Pick up your damn chin. Put your two calloused hands on the turntables, in the clay, on the strings. Get behind the camera. Look for that pinprick of light. Look for the truth . (Yes, it is a thing - it still exists.) Focus in that light. Enlarge it. Reveal the fierce urgency of now. Reveal how shattered we are, how capable of being repaired. But don’t lament the break. Nothing new would be built if things were never broken. A wise man once said: There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in. GET AFTER THAT LIGHT.” ✨

I literally have no idea when this photo was taken. It’s clearly back from my days at the Autism Center, (see: blue wall background) I just scrolled real quick, picked a cutie, & now here I am in the caption. The level of random s**t I do these days just to amuse myself is at its very peak. 🤗

Why yes, I did buy a pack of rainbow post-its for no real reason 💁🏻‍♀️

About this time two years ago, I was preparing to resign from my psychometry position at Seattle Children’s Autism Center. I was ready to jump into my styling work full time. I look at myself in this picture, all fresh & ready to make things happen with no idea what I was doing. But I was gonna work for myself! Ahhhh the precious bliss of ignorance! So sweet & innocent. Being an entrepreneur is simply exhausting work with so much internal fluctuation, no one to make decisions for me, no guarantee of clients or income during any given month. It requires that I become completely self-motivated & learn about each part of my business (even if I don’t want to): Marketing, sales, finances, business development, accounting, taxes, bookkeeping, social media, invoicing, client relations, business strategy, etc. It also requires that I believe in myself & my services SO MUCH that I get brave enough to tell people about my business on practically a daily basis. It’s absolute madness in my head. I have business ideas pouring out of my eyeballs, my hands smell like Goodwill about 64% of the time (don’t worry, corona virus got me washing ‘em every 5 minutes), & my brain feels like it’s gonna explode. But I’m living my dream! Hahaha. It’s just not that simple, is it?! Who else is living out their dreams and also struggling to make it all work cause it’s way harder than you thought?! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Thrifting, the Latest Disruptor in the World of Fashion Retail 02/26/2020

Fascinating article on thrifting as the latest disruptor in fashion. Y'all, thrifting is the future. The numbers don't lie.

"The resale market for 2019 has a $28 billion worldwide valuation, and according to WWD, is projected to hit $41 billion by 2022. The resale fashion category has grown 21 times faster than the retail market over the past three years. It shouldn’t be any surprise given consumers’ keen awareness and vocal criticism of the negative effects fast fashion has had on the environment. More people than ever are choosing to shop secondhand. In the last year, 56 million women in the U.S. bought secondhand clothing, a year-over-year increase of 30% from 2017."

Thrifting, the Latest Disruptor in the World of Fashion Retail Upcycling and repurposing clothing to sell has been around as long as fashion. How is thrifting now becoming the latest disruptor in fashion retail?

I’ll be there to shop, style, and chat about pre-loved clothes, body neutrality, style risks, real life. I’ll be bringing two huge bins of my own clothes to swap, too! (I’ve got tons of good stuff.) So clean out your closet, bring your clothes & your friends, & come hang with us for a morning of sustainable swapping! will also be selling her beautiful leather jewelry. You might think about wearing something easy to throw things over so that trying on clothes is seamless. If you wanna come, make sure to register — the link is in my bio! Tell all your friends because more people = more clothes, more styles, more sizes 🥳

Hi 👋🏼 there. I’m Kelly & sometimes I feel like I don’t belong. I take too many photos & then feel overwhelmed by them. I want to live a simpler life. I’m a good storyteller. Sometimes, I’ll get a certain feeling that I need to post on Instagram & I almost always follow that hunch. I believe in listening to my deep & sometimes counter-logical feelings. I fear that I’m not doing enough in the world which leaves me anxious & weary. I run on self-urgency & don’t allow myself to slow very often. I can be critical of my choices. At the moment, my care team consists of three therapists, a body worker, a healer, & a chiropractor. I have a lot of appointments. I want to make more money. When I get sick, I say I’m “expressing health” because taught me that my body is doing exactly what it needs to do to return to homeostasis. I think language is powerful. Sometimes I worry about my future. I care deeply about what other people think & I don’t care about what other people think at all. I believe that all feelings are valid & valuable. {Sigh.} Thanks for letting me get that all out! I feel expressed. Now I can get back to work. Byyye!

Clothing Swap 02/07/2020

I'm hosting a clothing swap in March at the Creativity Loft! Clean out your closet, get really honest about what you want to keep, bring your pre-loved clothes to the swap, and get different stuff in exchange. I'll be there to do some styling, chat about taking style risks, and get on a soapbox about body neutrality (just kidding but not really)! It's totally free, though we ask that you register for the event so that we know how many people to expect. Keep in mind: The more people we have, the more sizes and styles will be represented, so bring all your friends and all your stuff! It will be a fun Saturday morning hang out. Feel free to share this among your community as well!

Fashion’s impact on the environment is actually a mystery 02/03/2020

We all have a responsibility to know from where our facts come. This article peels back some of the layers behind why it's so difficult to get straight-up, research-based data on the fashion industry -- and why it's so important to have those accurate stats. Worth a read.

"[C]ompanies still don’t know what is happening in their supply chains and so have no baseline for what they will cut their emissions from. Some of this bad data has even cynically been pressed into service to increase our consumption. 'By purchasing a product, visitors fully understand their positive environmental impact!'"

"It’s clear that before we do anything else — demand legislation, invent new textiles, set targets — we need to figure out what research we need, then ask the government and big brands to fund it. 'This stuff isn’t rocket science, [t]he industry just hasn’t invested and prioritized this information. And if we don’t invest as an industry in this process, any company can say anything and we can’t say yes or no on whether it’s a meaningful process.'"

Stay awake out there, dear readers!

Fashion’s impact on the environment is actually a mystery Questionable facts plague the conversation around sustainability and fashion, and that makes the industry harder to regulate.
