Has your child ever used a hot glue gun? Trusting a child with a glue gun can be such an empowering experience!
Anyone offering art classes to children is very aware that they should be offering access to the things parents may be reluctant to introduce at home. Whether it’s glitter or hot glue, we’ve got you covered!
Here we used hot glue and watercolors to make this eclipse inspired art piece. We also explored colored glue and made some awesome 3d sculptures!

What do all of these things have in common? They’re all available at our Saturday Create and Play art classes! These Create and Play classes are designed with blended age groups, so we made a lot of varied materials available to speak to different abilities and interests! Come draw, bead, cut, build, and create with us!

Even for the most dedicated artists, the focus required to create something amazing or learn a new skill is no joke! With this in mind, there are always a handful of alternative activities for Twig House artists to take a break and explore. These magnatiles on this light board are perfect for hands-on types to explore lights, shadows, and color mixing!

Open ended, process based art with these young friends began with these ROYGBIV+W tempera paint palettes. Sometimes younger children are so transfixed with mixing the paints on the palette that swirling paint IS their project! Being in a blended age group class leaves space for these artists to see their older peers model how to take that next step: applying paint to the paper with the brush! All in good time. But, for now, let’s mix it up!

This floral art piece is a great project for practicing brush strokes and exploring the relationship between colors. It’s made so much easier with this stunning paint palette by Angora. They’ve been my favorite since I was a young, angsty teen artist. They good news? I have enough to share for the emerging artists at Twig House Art. Join us for our next Create and Play event and give them a try!

Today I had a moment to browse Third Place Books Lake Forest Park and excitedly scooped up these three titles to make available for any upcoming Twig House Art ‘Option Time’. I’m well versed in how widely learning styles can vary- not just from working with early learners for well over a decade, but also because I have four very different children at home! While I can imagine one of my children squealing as they plaster themselves in tempura, I can just as easily imagine another quietly reading about the structure of a certain art project. Messy, wild, quiet, curious- all learners are welcome at Twig House Art!
