For 9 years, Lou has been part of the heart of this place. The way she shows up for children—with care, curiosity, and intention—has shaped so much of our community.

“It’s so funny to me to be here looking back over the last 9 years and reflecting on all that’s changed and stayed the same. I reflect now on how even though I don’t feel like the same person who started their teaching career here at PMCCP, the love, purpose, and respect I have for this work has kept me connected and grounded over the last 9 years. I love working with children and feel the deepest joy in being able to support their growth in every way I can. I feel so privileged that I get to be part of their lives, even if for a moment.

9 years ago, I was given a chance to learn how to be a teacher with some of the best educators I’ve had the honor to work with. It feels like when I started, I had these strict ideas around education, but I can’t say that’s the same now—because how could it be? I’ve had some of the kindest, most thoughtful, and authentic educators challenge what I thought education could be and push me to go deeper. My teaching practice has become a mosaic of different pieces, lessons, and wisdom that have shaped the lens I bring to my work today.” ~Teacher Lou

It’s Daffodil Day 🌼—one of our favorite traditions in the P*ke Place Market to celebrate the first day of spring!
There’s something so special about this moment each year… children offering flowers, sharing joy with neighbors, and feeling themselves as part of something bigger than their classroom.
In the simple act of giving a daffodil, we see connection, generosity, and belonging come to life.

Sharing a long-standing tradition!

Thanks to the generous Rainshadow Quilting Arts Guild in Friday Harbor, WA, every Sweet Pea and Rainbow Bird student receive a handmade quilt to keep. This tradition started over 20 years ago when a dedicated supporter rallied her quilting community to donate nap-time quilts.

We are deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity of the Rainshadow Quilting Arts Guild. These quilts provide warmth and remind us of the dedication of our wonderful village.
