From garden to classroom! 🌱

Our Laurel Academy students had the opportunity to grow and harvest vegetables from our school gardens this year—including this impressive radish and another freshly picked root vegetable!

Gardening gives children a hands-on way to explore science, understand where food comes from, practice patience and responsibility, and experience the excitement of seeing their work produce something real.

There is nothing quite like pulling a vegetable from the soil and discovering what has been growing underneath! 🥕🌿

Our Laurel Academy Summer Camp students became entrepreneurs for a week! 🌱🛍️

Each student designed and created products to sell at our mock farmers market. Then, families received pretend cash and shopped from our young vendors!

This hands-on project gave students the opportunity to practice:

💵 Understanding money and making change
🎨 Designing and creating a product
📣 Marketing and presenting their ideas
🧮 Setting prices and managing sales
💬 Communicating confidently with customers
🧠 Problem-solving and adapting in real time

Experiences like this help children understand how their academic skills connect to the real world. They weren’t just learning about business—they were creating, collaborating, making decisions, and experiencing the pride of seeing others value something they made.

We loved watching our young entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life! 🌟

🌊☀️ Summer camp adventures took us to the beach!

Our campers had a beautiful day exploring Golden Gardens, playing together, enjoying the sand and water, and getting out into one of Seattle’s wonderful outdoor spaces.

Field trips are one of our favorite parts of summer camp because they give children a chance to experience their community, explore new environments, spend time outdoors, and make memories with their friends outside the classroom.

Sometimes the very best learning happens when you get out and explore the world around you. 💛

We loved spending this sunny Seattle summer day with our campers! 🏖️🌲

☀️ Sometimes summer camp is about learning new skills, trying something challenging, and discovering new interests...

And sometimes it’s about BOUNCING! 😂🎉

Our summer campers had an absolute blast jumping, laughing, playing, and burning off some serious energy in the bounce house!

Unstructured active play gives kids a chance to move their bodies, connect with friends, laugh together, and just enjoy being kids. And really, isn’t that what summer is supposed to be about? 💛

These are the kinds of summer camp memories we hope our students carry with them long after summer is over. ☀️

🚗🍿 Welcome to the Laurel Academy Drive-In!

Our summer campers put their creativity to work designing and building their very own cardboard box cars, and then got to take them for a “spin” to our summer camp drive-in movie! 🎬

Before settling in for the show, the kids planned, created, decorated, and personalized their cars. What looks like a simple cardboard box is actually a wonderful opportunity for children to practice problem-solving, creativity, planning, fine motor skills, and persistence.

And, of course, the best part of creating something yourself is getting to enjoy it afterward! ❤️

A little cardboard, a lot of imagination, and some popcorn made for a pretty fantastic summer camp afternoon. 🍿🚙✨

📚☀️ Summer adventures can happen anywhere, including between the pages of a really good book!

Our summer campers took a field trip to the library, where they had the chance to explore, browse the shelves, discover new interests, and choose books that caught their attention.

Library visits help children see reading as more than something they *have* to do for school. Books can be funny, fascinating, surprising, comforting, or a doorway into an entirely new world. 📖✨

One of our goals at Laurel Academy is to help children develop a genuine love of learning, and giving them time and freedom to explore their own interests is an important part of that.

A pretty perfect summer camp field trip in our book! 💛📚

🧗 Up, up, and away!

Our summer campers took on the rock-climbing wall this summer, challenging themselves to climb a little higher, try a new route, and keep going even when it got tough!

Activities like rock climbing give children a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, coordination, problem-solving skills, perseverance, and trust. There’s also something pretty special about reaching a spot that seemed impossible from the ground. 💪

Summer camp is the perfect time to try something new, take safe risks, cheer on your friends, and discover just how much you’re capable of.

We are so proud of our adventurous Laurel Academy campers! ☀️🧗‍♀️

🎭 That’s a wrap on Hercules! ⚡️🏛️

One of the highlights of Summer Camp was watching our young performers bring Hercules to life!

Theater gives children so much more than a chance to put on a great show. Rehearsing, learning lines, working as an ensemble, taking creative risks, and finally stepping in front of an audience give children opportunities to practice confidence, communication, cooperation, self-regulation, and perseverance.

And research backs that up! A recent study of a week-long youth theater camp found connections between theater participation and important social-emotional skills, including confidence, self-regulation, peer relationships, and working toward a shared task.

At Laurel Academy, we love giving children opportunities to discover that they can do things that once felt a little scary. There is something pretty magical about watching a child step onto a stage, find their voice, and realize, “I can do this!” 🌟

We are so proud of our Hercules cast and all the creativity, courage, laughter, and hard work they brought to the stage this summer. Bravo! 👏🎭

Is your child struggling to settle into their new classroom?

Maybe they’re getting lost in a large class. Maybe they’re coming home overwhelmed or frustrated. Maybe they need more individual attention, more challenge, or simply a different environment to thrive.

Sometimes a school can be a wonderful school and still not be the right fit for your child.

At Laurel Academy, our small elementary classes allow teachers to truly know their students. With a student-to-teacher ratio of 10:1 or better, children receive individualized attention while still being part of a warm, engaging classroom community.

If the start of this school year has you wondering whether there might be a better fit for your child, this is a great time to explore your options.

🍎 A few spaces are still available for fall enrollment at Laurel Academy.

Come visit, meet our teachers, see our classrooms, and discover what a smaller learning environment could look like for your child.

Your child deserves a place where they can feel known, supported, and excited to learn.

📩 Message us to schedule a tour or learn more about fall enrollment.
