Our Mission: To inspire and educate an inclusive community centered in clay. A dedicated glaze area stocks a full complement of materials.

Pottery Northwest is a professional clay facility comprising 7200 square feet in an early 1900’s brick building at Seattle Center with an adjoining outdoor kiln yard. Our equipment includes potter’s wheels, a slab roller, an extruder, a spray booth with compressor, clay mixer, and various workshop tools (saws, grinders, etc.). We have both electric and gas fired kilns, including soda and raku kiln

This ten-week class is an engaging and educational course designed to introduce complete beginners to the art of throwing ceramic forms on a wheel. Participants will learn the basics of preparation, including wedging, centering, pulling a wall and trimming, as well as diving further into the creation of functional projects such as cups, mugs, bowls and small vessels.

If you’re looking for ways to finish your pots besides dipping them in glaze, this course is for you! We will cover many ways to design and decorate your ceramic ware in both greenware and bisque states. You will receive an introduction to Sgrafitto, Mishima, stencils, slips, stamps, transfers, underglazes and stains. We will apply custom and intricate designs with decals in a third firing process.

During this 10-week course we will be covering many of the foundations of handbuilding from coiling to pinching but will spend most of the time on slab building. In this class we will be discussing soft vs. hard slab construction to create bowls, mugs, cups, and workshop ideas for more sculptural projects!
