Enroll for Summer at Spectrum
•
Byrd Workshop: Pre-professional and Professional Workshop
•
Ages 14+ The Byrd workshop consists of a 2-hour technique class followed by 2.5 hours of process/repertory. Technique class focuses on Mr. Byrd’s movement aesthetics and emphasizes a relaxed, strong, and flexible torso with highly articulated feet and legs, and increasing rhythmic and spatial exactness. With this focus, the dancer becomes more efficient in the management of energy and more able to control the visual, emotional, and physical impact of their body moving.

Summer at The School Spectrum Dance Theater is now in session!
Welcome to all of our Summer Students.
Please read our previous post to learn about our COVID regulations for in-person classes and beyond.
Hello families and dancers,
We are so excited to have you join us this summer at the School of Spectrum Dance Theater. It is our priority to keep everyone safe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We strive to abide by governmental guidelines as we keep our community, as well the general public’s health in mind.
This post serves as a guide for what to expect while attending our camps this summer. Please read below to learn more.
● All individuals are required to wear masks for the duration of their time in the building.
● Before classes start, a COVID monitor/instructor will wipe down all commonly touched surfaces.
● Parents walk their child to the glass doors, students enter and parents remain outdoors.
● Students are greeted by a COVID monitor who will take their temperature and ask a few simple questions about their symptoms, or if they’ve been exposed to family or friends who have been infected. If they answer yes, they must exit the building immediately.
● If students feel ill, they must exit class and have the front desk call their parents to collect them immediately (if possible).
● Students are offered hand sanitizer and a disposable mask if they do not have their own cloth mask, then are directed to place their belongings in a cubby, wash their hands, and find their designated spot in the studio for their class.
● If the studio is not cleaned yet, students may wait in designated waiting places in the hallway that will be marked 6 feet apart until entering the studio.
● Studios will have designated barre spots marked with tape. Large squares will delineate each student’s space to stand in the center.
● Each student will be assigned a color or a letter that will remain the same for that particular class for the entire session.
● Along the perimeter of the room will be taped “zones,” also color coded, where students may place their water bottle and take “mask breaks” when needed.
● Students may leave the studio at any time (only one at a time) to take a mask break, including standing outside for fresh air if needed (entrance and exit procedures followed, please sanitize again upon entrance).
● Instructors will be responsible for strict cleaning procedures between classes before a new group of students enters the studio.
● After class, students retrieve their belongings, clean their cubbies with provided wipes, and exit the building immediately (within 5 minutes of class ending) through the south side door.
● Parents may line up and wait for students outside the south side door with masks on and appropriate 6ft distance between them.
● Depending on which phase the state is in class size will reflect the greater . Live classes may be substituted with online classes.
It is important to note that these protocols are subject to change based on state and local guidance, and the pandemic itself. Should any student, company member, or staff member test positive for COVID-19, we may or may not close the building for cleaning. We will make every effort to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Now for the FUN part of the programming!
Your dancer will be busy for the full time that they are with us.
● Please have them dress in clothing that is comfortable enough for them to move in without being a distraction. If your dancer is enrolled in a program that requires dance attire (Saturday Ballet with Miss Heather, Dance Samples, or the School of Spectrum Dance Theater Summer Intensive), please have them wear their dance clothing UNDERNEATH their street clothing. Our locker rooms are currently not available for changing.
● You may send your dancer with a light sweater or sweatshirt in the event the room gets too cool during the day.
● Please leave all jewelry and accessories at home as they tend to either break, pull the focus, or get left behind. Due to sanitary reasons we currently do not have a lost and found at this time. These items will end up discarded so please refrain from bringing them to the studio.
● Please send your dancer ONLY with what is needed for dance classes, water breaks, and mid-morning lunch. Dance Day Camp and the School of Spectrum Dance Theater Summer Intensive are the only two programs that observe lunch times.
● Water bottles are mandatory as we DO NOT provide cups. Regular breaks will be safely taken to hydrate.
● Please DO NOT send your dancer with food to share.
● All personal items need to be LABELED all of your dancers’ belongings. Feel free to ask any questions as we look forward to dancing with you soon!
