The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology

The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology A graduate school & seminary offering immersive & holistic degrees in counseling psychology and theology & culture. Discover & hone your craft with us.

The dream of The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology began around a kitchen table, where a gathering of a few passionate dreamers dared to imagine a new kind of theological and psychological training. Established in 1997, The Seattle School is a progressive, multi-denominational graduate school located in the Belltown neighborhood in downtown Seattle. Our mission is to train people to be compe

tent in the study of text, soul, and culture in order to serve God and neighbor through transforming relationships. We believe that now, more than ever, our communities need reflective and courageous leaders willing to engage the tension and conflict present in our culture for the sake of restoration. Our graduate school offers Master’s levels programs in Counseling Psychology, Theology & Culture, and Divinity in order to develop embodied and adaptive leaders and healers through a commitment to formation, interdisciplinary education, and sustainability. We serve individuals and communities in the Pacific Northwest and across the country through our public lectures and workshop offered through The Forum and develop a greater capacity for engaging and healing from the impact of trauma and abuse through the work of The Allender Center at The Seattle School.

Meet Lindsey Rithner, a student in our Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) program! 🌱📚

Today on the blog, Lindsey shares how her experience at The Seattle School has shaped the way she shows up for clients, her kids, and her creative work as a writer and illustrator.

She also talks about her children’s books, including “Little Miss Therapist,” and her hope that kids and families will cultivate curiosity, empathy, and compassion by remembering that everyone has a story behind their behavior.

As Lindsey puts it: “People make more sense when we know their stories.”

This month, we’re joined by our very own Krista Law! She’s the Enrollment Manager here at The Seattle School and a proud alumna of our Master of Counseling Psychology (2012) and Master of Christian Studies (2013) programs. Krista will give us insights into her journey as a student, her professional path since graduating, and what led her back to The Seattle School in her current role.

Jesus drew near.

He moved toward lepers, the bleeding woman, sinners, and the marginalized, contaminating the very categories meant to keep him separate. His ministry reminds us that transformation often happens in the places where disgust would have us withdraw.

Join this webinar to explore theory and practical application, offering ways leaders and communities can work with disgust as it arises around bodies, stories, social difference, and conflict.

This is going to be a good one! Raise your hand 🤚 in the comments if you’ll be there next Thursday!

Registration for our next webinar is now LIVE!

We’re excited to introduce our hosts: Dr. Paul Hoard, PhD, LMHC, and Billie Hoard, MA. They’ll be leading this free webinar on Eucontamination: How Disgust Shapes Our Faith, Communities, and Identity.

We’ll be exploring how Jesus inverted rules of disgust to bring healing & why disgust feels so intense and shapes who we exclude.

If you're a faith leader, community organizer, therapist, or simply someone trying to inhabit difficult spaces where aversion and grace meet, this is for you. If you've ever been tempted to pull away in disgust, join in as we learn how to stay present in messy, high-conflict spaces.
