So you're interested in becoming a commercial diver?

This is hard, physical and technical work in cold water, often low visibility with zero margin for error.

We're not screening for the strongest person in the room, we're screening for the person who'll actually commit. Here's what we're looking for:

1. Commitment over talent. You don't need to arrive strong or experienced, you need to be willing to show up and do the work, every day for seven months.

2. Team First Mindset. No diver works alone. Your tender holds your line. If you can't trust a team or be trusted by one, this isn't the trade.

3. Reliability. 6:00AM starts, every class day, rain or shine. Attendance and punctuality are themselves a test of seriousness.

4. You will be corrected, often. Candidates who take instruction will improve fast. Candidates who don't, struggle.

5. Respect For Procedure. Safety in this industry is not optional or approximate. Serious candidates follow even when no one's watching.

6. A real reason to be here. Whether it's a new trade, a fresh start or a mission that fits your background — candidates who know their 'why' finish strong.

Women make up roughly 3%–4% of commercial divers nationwide — one of the most underrepresented trades in the country, and like many skilled trades, still a small fraction of the workforce.

Right now, we're training the largest group of women in DIT history — all at the same time. 

We're beyond excited to see this many women pursuing a challenging, rewarding career, and to see this kind of growth taking hold at DIT.
