For years, the Blacktop has been more than just pavement for PNPC families and the Phinney community. It’s where scooter skills are mastered, games are invented, and countless memories are made.
As we celebrate 45 years of PNPC, we wanted to transform this familiar space into one that inspires even more imaginative play.
So, who better to help design it than the children who know it best?
Our Pre-K Class of ‘26 dreamed up what the Blacktop could become, filling pages with rainbows, apple trees, streams, rocket ships, and more. Their creativity became the inspiration for the mural you’ll soon see come to life.
Meet Rosie + Tori! 👋
To help bring our students’ ideas to life, we partnered with two incredible local artists.
Rosie Alyea, founder of Wide Eyed, creates colorful, site-specific murals and installations that bring joy to communities through meaningful public art. Rosie’s work can also be found at the traffic signal box at N 85th St & Fremont, created as part of PNA’s Reimagining PhinneyWood Signal Boxes project.
Tori Shao is a Seattle-based illustrator, muralist, and landscape architect whose work explores the connections between people, nature, and the places we share.
Their vision combines the imagination of our Pre-K Class of ‘26 with interactive elements designed to inspire movement, storytelling, and creative play.
Now it’s time to bring the mural to life. 🎨
