New Moon Movement Arts is a movement space in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood specializing in aerial circus arts. New Moon opened in January 2024 upon the closure of Greenwood’s former aerial studio, Versatile Arts. We strive to uphold the high-caliber coaching, safety-minded practice, and community-oriented approach for which Versatile Arts was recognized. At New moon, our mission is to create a welcoming space where movement is fun and all bodies are welcome. We believe that physical activity and social interaction are critical to our mental, physical, and emotional well-being and we aim to create and foster a community-centric environment where moving feels good and challenges are attainable. New Moon owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to Beverly Sobelman of Versatile Arts for the support and assistance that made us happen.

We've got two upcoming lyra workshops with Artoor focused on building creative transitions and pathways to transform your hoop work from a series of skills to a visually engaging flow.

Beginner ands Intermediate Magic of transitions is suitable for students in New Moon levels 1b, 2a, and 2b. This workshop is on Saturday Sept 25th.

Advanced Magic of transitions is suitable for students in New Moon levels 2b and above. This workshop is full, but waitliting is encouraged.

All Chained Up: Chains and Heels Choreo
Sat. Sept 12th, 4-5:30pm
Instructor: Emily Gunter

An introductory workshop for those who want to combine heels dance with aerial chains flow! We'll be learning a short sequence that combines heels technique, dance choreography, and aerial chains. Have fun exploring the new avenues of movement that heels can add to your aerial practice, while looking badass in chains.

Students should bring their own closed toe heels: platform boots like pleasers or other pole heels are ideal, although you may also bring closed toe non platform heels if you prefer. Wear leggings and a shirt that will protect your skin from the chains.

Artoor is coming to New Moon!

Next month Artoor is offering his Magic of Transitions workshop, broken into two sections for differing experience levels.

The advanced section is full, but there is still space in Magic of Transitions for Beginner - Intermediate students.

The magic of transitions is limitless. Once you build a solid foundation of transitions, you can combine them in countless ways to keep your aerial practice dynamic and exciting.

We’ll work on rolls, threads, and other approachable ways to move in and around the hoop, building the vocabulary you need to link skills smoothly and with confidence. Students can expect to walk away with versatile transitions they can start combining right away to keep their practice fresh.

Prereq: Recommended for New Moon lyra students approved for levels 1b, 2a, and 2b

The magic of transitions is limitless. When you master your transitions, you can combine them in an infinite number of ways to keep your aerial practice dynamic and exciting.

We’ll dig into rolls, threads, and more unconventional ways to move in and around the hoop, refining the technical details that make transitions look effortless and open up new creative combinations. Students can expect to expand their transition vocabulary with nuanced, versatile skills that keep their practice fresh and push their artistry forward.

Prereq: Recommended for New Moon students approved for lyra levels 2b, 2c, and 3
(2b students can expect the material to be manageable, but challenging)
